Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic HELP! I have a 2009 Honda Civic EX 1.8L with 110K miles. I am trying to replace a fuel pump relay and cannot find a diagram for the under hood fuse/relay box. Issue: The car has an intermittent problem of not starting. At first, I thought this was a bad fuel pump. Replaced fuel pump and everything was fine for a couple of days. THEN, the same not starting issue came back. If I let it sit for a day, then it will start. In asking around, I heard about the "main relay" issue in Civics....tried to find the main relay in my 2009 only to figure out it did NOT have one. SO, I am now turning my attention to the fuel pump relay. Bought the part, but don't know exactly which socket it goes into AND there is no clear diagram that I can find. I am also going to replace the plugs as the car has 110K miles. ANY help is appreciated -- this seems simple and I am losing patients (with my ineptitude). THANKS!! |
Re: Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic Relay for the pump is called PGMFI main relay #2, it's in the dash fusebox, extreme top of the box, center cavity |

What am I getting wrong? There's an large section of the dash fusebox above the fuse area that is not shown in your diagram. |
Re: Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic The dash fuse box: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.civ...43914c2cf5.jpg The lower section of the dash pops off to gain access to the upper half of the fuse box |
Re: Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic Thanks eZone -- is there anything that could give me a diagram of the whole box? As mentioned: 1. Replaced the fuel pump...that worked for a while and then the problem started again. 2. Replaced the spark plugs...that worked for a while and then the problem started again. I would like to replace the under-dash relay, BUT I am not sure if it really exists or it is some mythical unicorn relay. My mechanic ( a really good guy and mechanic) could not find the problem. Everything worked fine. Got the car back home and the car AGAIN displays the following: 1. Car starts for a short period of time, but quits once put into gear. 2. Next the car will start very briefly then quits. 3. Next, I am just cranking on the engine, doesn't start. It is _very_ frustrating. If there is ANYONE that has ANY clue I would be REALLY thankful. |
Re: Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic Diagram? I gave you a pic of the whole underdash fuse panel |

Re: Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic Again, top row center cavity holds the PGMFI main relay #2 for the fuel pump. In these pics it's green or blue https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.civ...f8670923d7.gifhttps://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.civ...12f78d03b0.jpg After you get the piece of dash trim removed you can see this clearly https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.civ...c5a54efbf7.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.civ...8e653b7fd5.gif Parts catalog link (CLICK IT): http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...BIN%29+%282%29 |

Re: Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic Well....I got the new relay. Figured out how to take off the lower skirt. Replaced the part...AND...still not working. eZone -- thank you for your help. SERIOUSLY, just showing me the diagram was like talking me off a ledge. Need to figure out my next move. Replaced fuel pump. And then it worked for a day. Replaced spark plugs. And then it worked for a day. Replaced both fuel pump relays. And that did not do the trick. Seems like there is a bad relay or short somewhere. All the other electrical systems seem to be functioning. My driveway is on a slight uphill slant and the problem seems to manifest itself when the temperature drops. Right now I am just reaching for anything. Thanks again eZone. |

Re: Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic Just a quick update.....because the Honda Civic Gods are pissed at me....the car is now starting.....AAARRGGGHH... I checked the ignition coil fuse....obviously that's ok...doh Is there some sort of ignition coil relay? |
Re: Fuel Pump Relay location -- 2009 Civic Those type issues are tough. Any mods to car ? You will have to attempt narrow fuel, spark etc. 1 by 1. Of course when it is shows up. |

Now I feel like Elmer Fudd hunting for a pesky rabbit. Pretty confident that it is not fuel related (I hope). I don't know how you check if a relay is starting to go bad, but I'm now tracking down the ignition coil relay. |
