The 3 step detail?? Could someone break it down for me?

I've read the AUTO DETAIL DIY, but i hear everyone talking about doing the steps this and that? What is that? Whats the purpose? Could someone explain the process, what I need and most of all the purpose behind each step. THanx

I'm guessing your talking about the meguiars 3 step, #1 paint cleaner #2 polish #3 Carnauba Wax

Mbow 03-03-2003 11:47 PM

The first step is cleaning the paint and getting rid of any contaminants. Then, the second step polishes the paint. It helps to fill in minor scratches and swirl marks. The polish is what really makes the car shine. It also nourishes the paint or something but I am not that into it. Lastly, a layer of wax is applied to PROTECT the renewed surface.

Now thats what I'm talking bout. Exactly what I asked nothing more and nothing less and no smart ass answers from anyone. Thanx gents. One last question are those all meguars products sold seperately?

civicdude 03-05-2003 10:02 PM

Yes they are all sold seperatley. You can also get them from their website....In a package deal but it will probably be more expensive that way.

I have the 3 step, it's pretty nice...Not even close to show quality wax though!!! :susp:
It's a bit time consuming as well...It comes in 3 seperate bottles (the paint cleaner comes in handy and I have probably used it more than the polish or the wax)...Next time (spring) I want to give my car a good wax I'm going to buy something better...

SWEEEET!! It's ON!! I can't wait to try it out and see what kind of a difference it makes. Thanks fellas

dont forget to clay your car before you use the three step.

Subrage 03-17-2003 12:00 PM

i like the 3 step system.

i really like teh #7 show car glaze

noahnoah 03-17-2003 12:32 PM

what is clay? How do you clay your car? Do you get that at K-mart or wal-mart too?

Subrage 03-17-2003 10:13 PM

it picks up alot of contaminats off your paint. you can get it at autozone/parts america. you spray the lub stuff on a little bit at a time and run the clay bar over it. (do not drop clay bar on ground) repeat lubing the car and clay baring the entire car. ( dont drop the clay bar on the ground) then finish detailing your car make sure to wax your car after your clay bar. the clay bar will strip your wax as well.

Did i mention (dont drop the clay bar on the ground) if you do throw it away and go spend another $14 on a new clay bar kit.

You're going to have a better price at K-Mart, but most of the ones here in OK have closed already. Not sure about OKC though.

rokenrolcivic 07-23-2003 04:08 PM

Now should you claybar before you apply the cleaner wax, polish, and final wax? like right after you wash the car or after wich step would you use the caly bar?

orion_squall 08-22-2003 11:31 AM

something does not add up here.

people say wash often and use 3 step often. But 1st step of the 3 step is using wax cleaner and I hear "civicdude" say DON't WAX CLEANER too often.

so can we just use gold class(1 step) often?

and can we clay often??
