Imagin detailing a car with a paint job like this.

What would you do if you went to wash the car and the paint turned colors just like the matchbox cars used to when they were hot and cold, well now they do.

MiamiUgen7 08-24-2005 08:45 AM

holy shit that is awesome

imagine if it started to rain and you got all these crazy colored water spots on yuor car, people would be like wtf??? :roflmao:

drew22mader 08-24-2005 10:00 AM

Yea i know that would be awesome, i could just imagine dropping your car off to a person for a detail job and them spraying your car and freaking out.

civvic2k1 08-24-2005 10:06 AM

That is awsome. Do you have any more info on that?

civvic2k1 08-24-2005 10:16 AM

Nevermind. Heres the link in anyone needs it. http://www.trippininc.com/

soonercivic 08-24-2005 10:17 AM

i found another company that makes a similar product. http://www.alsacorp.com/products/ecl...e_prodinfo.htm

Radek 08-24-2005 03:45 PM

What you need to do is have that paint... and then install some sort of like heat jet system on various parts of your car... so just as you're about to pwn someone racing... your car changes color.

Or even better yet, throw off a cop :-D

jackburton 08-24-2005 03:58 PM

^yes that would be sweet!!!
I am surprised they have not used that in the movies yet

Maybe in TFATF3?

Blue_Honda_Civ 08-24-2005 09:32 PM

bring it to the car wash and then complain that there water changed the color of your car and ask for money to get a paint job

gearbox 08-24-2005 09:36 PM

oh man i loved those hotwheel cars. You can have two different colors for summer and winter!

civic01vtec 08-24-2005 10:00 PM

That is insane

drew22mader 08-24-2005 10:41 PM

On the site it said something about having it automatically change with a press of a button, but not sure how it could do this.

PennyKnotOff 08-25-2005 03:59 AM

oh man that's nice. how much would that cost?

Edit: nevermind i looked it up. How much paint would be needed to paint an 01 coupe w/ oem spoiler. No paint for hood since it's CF? I want to 'bruiser' w/ a darker blue though. Man that would be sweet

soonercivic 08-25-2005 08:32 AM

2 gallons would probably do a civic coupe. Thats still 3200 bucks just for the paint though!

Perfect paint job for a getaway car, and I'm sure that's how we'll see it used in a movie. Bad/Good guy, makes a run through a car wash or broken water main, the guys chasing don't see him, (of course he's gone from a hot looking Red car to a boring looking White car, with melt away body mods).

Radek 08-25-2005 10:06 PM

why even through a car wash? Why not just some sort of way to heat the outside of the car? Heat coils underneath the panels?

Anyone got any ideas?

kickercivic1 08-25-2005 10:23 PM

1 Pint Blue / White $249 wow

Robb989 08-25-2005 11:43 PM

WOW!!! That is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

jttegx 08-26-2005 12:14 AM

Pretty sure if you wanted to you could send current through the panels to heat it up and get it to change, much like blackout windows in planes and hotels. But whatever you did, for a rapid change, you'd want it to do so in a uniform manner, rather than the blotchy look from spot heating/cooling, which would give to the finish that rear window defroster look (stripped), at least until the panels heated or cooled to the temp that allowed for the effect you were going for. But it would be kind of neat to see several color changes/effects with different temperature ranges. Flowing flames, waving flags, even animation, all with color changing and of course heating and cooling.

Problem is the novelty would wear off pretty soon, at least as far as the general public would want on their cars.

Radek 08-26-2005 02:33 PM

^ but Im thinking about something directly underneath the paneling. There has to be room there, wouldnt there? Kind of like a radiant heat flooring idea.

The general novelty MIGHT wear off soon... but you could definitely do animation type things... especially if you had a radiant heat setup. The question is, how would you get multiple transformations without multiple layers? Like, they'd have to sell you a paint that was black(0F) to blue(50F) to red(65F) to white(80F) or something like that.

Or, you could alternatively buy a black to red, and a black to blue and a black to white... hmmm, Im just curious if the blacks would overlap, if it would stop the red from coming out or whatever.

drew22mader 08-26-2005 02:39 PM

When reading the site, it really only says that it switches two colors, cause at or below its one color, and above that temp its another. It would be cool to change at 60, 75, 95, 115.

Radek 08-26-2005 11:58 PM

Right, but they said they can do multiple stages, or multiple temps.

soonercivic 08-27-2005 12:11 AM

It looks like that helmet in the video goes from gold to red to black and then back again.

Xenin 09-05-2005 07:56 AM

its already been used in a movie. i think it was Cannonball Run. really old movie.

drew22mader 09-05-2005 10:40 AM

I loved that movie! Man, that was a long time ago. But i bet that it wasn't the paint that changed colors, they did some editing with the camera angles and pictures to make it seem like that. If it was so long ago then why hasn't it been some big thing until now? And why does it cost so much.

DaMadScientist 09-06-2005 09:45 PM

I heart the use of chemistry

rice4lyfe 10-03-2005 03:15 PM

if you pour water on, would you need a clearcoat or what?

sdstud212001 10-04-2005 12:24 AM

So has anyone done this yet?
