double sided tape

i need help finding a strong double sided tape to install my side and rear skirts. i already bought some double sided tape at crappy tire and it's not strong or sticky enough to hold the side skirts. i installed my side skirts two weeks ago and after a week it started to come off but the skirts are still on the car coz of the bracket underneath the car supporting it. did anyone run into this problem??? i also checked home depot and they have the 3m double sided tape but not strong enough, same crappy $***. im thinking of bringing it to a shop to get the side and rear skit installed. oh... its oem aero sides and 04 rear skirt by the way and i have an 02 civic. the rear fits ok with slight modification i think. do you guys have any suggestions on what brand double sided tape to use and where to get it. also a good shop to get em installed nad how much they charge. any suggestion would be great thanks!!!

i get my 3m double sided tape at Napa.

there's a location on ellesmere past markham rd. it's sorta hidden...

it's on the north side.

it's expensive... but wtf... when you need it, you need it. so i bought it.

I use the 3M tape from H0mo Depot. The stuff with the red backing. It's held my sideskirt brackets on nice and tight.

armieo 04-26-2004 11:45 AM

They have homo depot in Canada?

Shu 04-26-2004 11:51 AM

^ Same with me, that stuff is good...installed my rear skirt and it seems really tight.

One thought is that you have to make sure everything is insanely clean before sticking the skirt on...any kind of grease or dust will hinder adherance greatly. I used rubbing alcohol to clean both surfaces and held my breath for most of the install so I didn't stir up any dust.

SiG 04-26-2004 12:03 PM

you could wear a mask to help avoid spreading dust!

Shu 04-26-2004 12:26 PM

Kidding about holding my breath BTW...:)

I needed some strong double sided tape also, so I went to Home Depot tonight and found exactly the stuff you guys were talking about. Thanks for the help. Hopefully this one will work and my stupid pager alarm sensor wont keep falling off the windshield.

I bought mine at target. Its 3m weather proof, 5lb double sided tape. Its red, and the actual tape is like a charcole grey color.

I know you were kidding, but i would LOVE to see a guy installing his kit with a mask on LOL

Im aware no one would do it but just said it for the hell of it! People driving by would be like "civic owners need to realize its a vehicle, not surgery" haha

yah im havin a real problem with a control box thing i have stuck to my dash...everytime i run the lights that it controls the box warms up and then the tape that is sticking it to the dash lets go! biggest pain ever!

Also a no-no when installing double sided tape stuff...instructions straight from Honda state that "ambient air temperature should be above 15C" when you install. I had to close the garage door and use a space heater to reach 15C since I installed in March :)

Shu 04-27-2004 07:49 AM

LOL...yeah, I always sterilize all my tools and wear one of those green smocks before I even pop my hood...

Yeah, I think the same tape will work for you as well...I have an air freshener that I stuck to my dash with the stuff that won't even budge even when it's been in the sun on those burning hot summer days.

I found it in the Painting Dept. It costs around $5

You're sticking it to the windshield? Like the glass? Hmm, suction cups might work better for that since glass is so non-porous and so smooth and changes temperatures dramatically...just a thought...

nitehawk 04-27-2004 10:01 AM

The suction cup sounds like a good idea but how do get it to hold the sensor? Is there 2 sided suction cups or something? Or a suction cup with glue on the other side?

TeLLy 04-27-2004 10:16 AM

Why not velcro it under your visor? Just grab the hooks side of a velcro strip, stick that on the sensor, and velcro to a spot of your headliner under the visor (or the visor itself?)

nitehawk 04-27-2004 10:53 AM

not a bad idea either. I will have to see how much free wire Ive got to see if it reaches.

TeLLy 04-27-2004 11:02 AM

I use the industrial-strength stuff I found at Homo Depot (while hunting for foam tape). That stuff holds like a crack ho to a pipe.

Shu 04-27-2004 11:19 AM

^ LOL...

Good ideas Telly, you are truly the God of ghetto mods! :_bow:

nitehawk 04-27-2004 12:05 PM

 Haha Telly...Great comparison!

TeLLy 04-27-2004 12:14 PM

I'm smart, like a crack ho lookin for a fix.

Thank you. Years of drug and alcohol abuse have destroyed my brain.
