Guess the Honda

Anybody know what kind of Honda this is? I have a feeling it's a Civic but I'm not sure. Saw this bad boy out in San Diego, and my pops (second pic) told me it was a first gen with a motorcycle engine in it. He's 6' 4" about 240 for sizing lol

History

The two-door Honda Z600 was a microcar designed and built by Honda sold from 1970 to 1972, before the introduction of the Civic in 1973. Marketed as the "sport coupé" version of the N600 "sedan", the two models were sold side by side at American motorcycle dealerships until the first stand-alone dealers opened with the Civic on their lots. Total production was 40,586 units. The car was first introduced in October 1970.

The export name of this car, the Z600, was simply because of the engine size of 598 cc. The smaller engined Honda Z360 was available in Japan (and other markets, such as Australia) with a 354 cc twin. The "Z" designation was resurrected in 1998 and was discontinued again in 2003.

As with all cars in the Kei class, the Z360's specifications were tightly governed. The Z360 originally featured an air-cooled, 354 cc, 2-cylinder engine with a 4- or 5-speed transmission driving the front wheels. Outputs were 31 PS (23 kW) at 8,500 rpm for the Act and Pro versions, and 36 PS (26 kW) at an astronomical 9,000 rpm for the sportier TS and GS models. The Z600 model's 598 cc engine was rated at 36 hp (26 kW). In December 1971, the Z360 received a facelift and a water-cooled engine, it too producing 36 PS (26 kW) at 9,000&rpm. Only a month later, the 31 PS engine used in the lower spec variants (Standard, Deluxe, Automatic, Custom) also became water-cooled.

Yeah, smaller and lighter cars...
We get wiped out by an english sprite in the autoX... no other car can get too close to the guy because of the handicap system in SCCA...
The only time we can get close to catch the guy is when there is a section where he needs to shift down to 1st - he does not have sinchros.
And to offend even more, he runs all season 200 buck all 4 monted and balanced. and engine is 1200cc...
but he gets as fast a some STi Street mod...
light and small...

^Yup, it's an s600.

Muscle cars lovers can keep their bloated big blocks and over sized body styles meant for nothing but straight line performance, imports have always been where its at.

Haha. I've always been a bit of a muscle car guy. But these S600's would have been enough to convert me. Beautiful cars. I can't believe they didn't import more of these over here. They look as nice as the British sports cars from the time, but I'm sure they didn't break down nearly as often.

Unless I found a shell with no engine, I don't think I'd swap a k20/24 into one, they're so rare I'd rather save my molesting for an EKs.

I'm tall so I'd have to go for the convertible, I gotta say, I notice a much higher percentage of fat people whenever I cross the border.
