s2000 or STI

Well I got my new car (Accord EX v6) and love it. Well my buddy decided to get a new car after driving in mine (he has a camaro). Well he is trying to decide between a s2000 or a wrx STI. He likes both cars a lot. He likes the roadster look or the s2000 but then he likes the AWD Turbo of the STI. He test drove both cars and liked both of them. I have already driven an STI and know how fast it is. I took out the s2000 and was surprised on how quick it actually was. What would you guys do if you had to decide between these 2 cars.

EManEX 07-29-2005 10:55 AM

Two totaly different cars, he needs to know what and how he will use it for; then he can make a better choise.

ragingSPAM 07-29-2005 10:57 AM

in the similar price range i the STi because its just my preference...but im a honda guy so i would just get an S2000...brand new STi can be a little bit steeper in price so tell him to go with an evo...lol

RangerMan 07-29-2005 11:01 AM

I would choose the STI, thats because it seems like a more rare car (where I am). The S2000 owns in terms of looks, they are on par with being cool, but performance, the STI would be more fun to drive, no? Having 4 doors, more practical. What is price diff? With the S2000 you need more road to have fun right, STI not the case. (S2000 having to build the rev)

jackburton 07-29-2005 11:01 AM

Does it snow where he lives?
Will he have other cars besides his new one?
What is the purpose of this car/-daily driver, weekend driver....
does he have kids?
Personally i would go with sti, even though i love honda.

jackburton 07-29-2005 11:07 AM

More road to have fun in order to achieve high rev??

jackburton 07-29-2005 11:08 AM

I thought evos were more pricey now.

Yes..all the fun is in the High RPM.
I'm coming from an older review, "below 5800 rpm, you only have 150hp, above that it sings" Isn't the max torque at 7500RPM, therefore there is not much when "idling" along.
I have a vid of the s2000 (an older review of it, if you have hotmail, I can send. 15megs..)
Does not say the car Rocks.

actually Stock Vs stock the S2000 is quite a bit faster on track then the Sti.... this goes for autocross too, the Sti and Evo's make bad A-Stock cars... the S2000 Just got bumped up to A-Stock (after dominating B-Stock for many years), and is giving the C4 corvettes that pretty much rule there a run for their money.

S2000man01 07-29-2005 11:55 AM

yeah two totally different cars. 4 door turbo sports sedan vs 2 seater RWD roadster.

the S2000 will require more compromises as it's more an enthusiasts car, and forgoes some creature comforts. it also does not have the low end power the STi would. however, that does not mean the S2000 is lifeless and a dog below 6000rpm, which is what people seem to think.

Kyle23 07-29-2005 11:55 AM

s2k 4 sure. It's so much more sexy

jackburton 07-29-2005 12:29 PM

I know the s2k power is in high end, i was just saying you are exagerating on the need for more road.
If you want power while putzen around just drop it a gear.

S2000man01 07-29-2005 01:10 PM

IMO both are great cars and you couldn't go wrong with either one.

Michalo187 07-29-2005 01:20 PM

I would get the s2000 if i didn't have to worry about picking anyone up all the time like i do know always going for my bro or cousin or friends. If i was the way i am now always giving rides i would get the sti but i love the s2000

NoFriends 07-29-2005 01:24 PM

The STI is more practical IMO.

Its faster in the 1/4 mile, capable of 13.3-4 in the hands of a good driver while the S2k 's are only capable of high 13's stock (please correct me if im wrong on that one). 4 doors and AWD for the family should you need it.

However, the S2000 would be more of a "weekend" car if you will. It looks better, great handling but is not as practical if you need a car for things other then looking good with the top down.

Ive been contemplating upgrading to an STI or S2000 myself, and while they both have their strong points, 9/10 I would chose the STI.

ap1.....

I was checking the maintenace calculator for the S2000, Its in Kilometeres

http://honda.ca/Honda/YourHonda/Hond...doDisplay=&L=E

Here is the maintenance schedule for subarus exclusing the STI(which might be requiring more maintenance) in kilometres.

http://www.subaru.ca/interface/Subar...&WebSiteID=282

Looks like Subarus requires more preventative maintenace than the s2000.

Wolfgang5884 07-29-2005 02:19 PM

I say S2000 because there are too many STIs here

Jrfish007 07-29-2005 02:26 PM

Well, I would go for an S2000 because I like the better handling and feeling of just the general feeling of it. However, if he is just coming out of a camaro, he is used to low end torque and the S2000, all though not lifeless, does lack in low end compared to the STI. So I think he would be happier with the STI in the long run considering he is now driving a RWD V8.

PunkingCivic 07-29-2005 02:28 PM

The STI is more practical IMO.

Scoobies are always seem to be more costly, mostly impart to their boxer engines and AWD systems. The more complexe a car, the more maintance

But if enjoy driving the car, you will be happy to pay it.

CivicsRdBest 07-29-2005 02:43 PM

Ok, you said he drives a Camaro. A convertible is great, but he'll probably be better off in the STi. The STi has a lot of power down low, something similar to muscle cars, but it also has useable rear seats, which is something pony cars don't have.

Dlmille 07-29-2005 02:52 PM

S2000, two different cars. The styling does it for me, hands down!

white2K2EX 07-29-2005 03:19 PM

The only way he could go wrong is if he buys the S2000 for the cool factor (to me, the S2000 is a much sexier car, though they're both badass) and ends up needing practicality. The S2000 has no rear seats and the trunk isn't huge. The STi has a full backseat and I believe the trunk is larger. If he's a family man, I'd urge him to go for the Subaru. If he's going to be a bachelor (or at least not have kids) for a while, I'd go with the S2000.

But hell, I'm 19 and have no use for a backseat or large trunk, so it'd be the S2000 in my book... not that I can afford either car :)

kempster 07-29-2005 03:26 PM

S2K hands down

WhiteCastle 07-29-2005 03:32 PM

I would say that 400hp Evo MR British edition... But realistically s2k! unless hes going to have kids to drag around and other things

cant say id rather have one over the other, but honestly prefer rwd to awd, so i guess s2k would be my choice.

   couldn't have said it better. im 19 too btw.

XxJDMCivicxX 07-30-2005 07:39 PM

Does he want a Go Kart or a 4 door that's the question. AWD is more forgiving to RWD but if he doesn't drive a v6 camaro I think he should be fine. S2K over Sti but it's just another useless opinion lol.

kasimmmmm 07-30-2005 09:06 PM

to me its obvious... i'm surprised people are saying s2000, but then again its a honda forum....

sti any given day! 300hp with 300 lbs torque... enough said. Looks meaner... sounds nicer... overall better than s2000 IMO.
