My timing belt is almost dead...

Money doesn't grow on trees... For an '01 civic, in Los Angeles, CA

Is $375.00 a fair price, to have the timing belt, the water pump, all the drive belts, the crank seal, and the cam seal replaced, and the radiator flushed?

This is from a trusted mechanic that only works on Hondas and Acuras and only uses Honda parts.

water pump=100 bucks timing belt ~ 20-30 bucks. belts= no more than 20. crank seal-unsure cam seal-unsure. radiator flush- DIY. antifreeze would be around 20 bucks for the fluid. plus labor rate. so maybe. i wouldn't run that at all though.

To have it done, it is about 3-400 dollars. Always do the water pump with the belt, and do the seals. I might also do the tensioner, as they wear out too.

Is that for parts AND labor? If it is, then I think so. I've heard changing the timing belt can be a bitch.

Al Gore FTW 07-12-2005 05:30 PM

sounds about right, i have some friends with other hondas that have paid in the 350-500 range for their timing belts

WhiteCastle 07-12-2005 05:32 PM

replace timing belt now!! if that goes your soo fucvk!!!!!!!!

susuking 07-12-2005 05:40 PM

got mine change at 160000 haha .. might be quite long ... but nth happen .. and everyday commute of 100 miles doesn't help ...

Wolfgang5884 07-12-2005 06:03 PM

sounds about right

mclean987 07-12-2005 06:36 PM

what mileage you guys at? i wanna figure about how long the head gasket lasts i know it depends on how you drive

Black03civic 07-12-2005 06:39 PM

hmm that a good price if that includes labor

HyaBoosta 07-12-2005 07:26 PM

not a bad price

sw388integra 07-12-2005 07:59 PM

I'd jump on that price if i didn't do my own work!..

BlackFire 07-12-2005 09:02 PM

I would say its a great price if it includes parts and labor considering its being done in California where living cost is kinda expensive.

MajinB 07-12-2005 09:04 PM

um if your timing belt breaks then your gonna need a new motor. literally. yeah so with all that stuff its a decent price.

mrb420 07-13-2005 03:09 PM

Yup, I already made the appt. for next Saturday. And that does include parts & labor. For anybody that is interested in the shop, here is the link:

By the way, I am at 90K miles, approx.

that's a good price. when i had to change the timing belt for my '99 accord, the dealership was going to charge me $500 for it. just the timing belt alone!!!

The Accord's belt is more complicated.

mrb420 07-14-2005 09:05 AM

Should I attempt to change it myself?

How tuff is it?

clownprince 07-14-2005 10:03 AM

I was going to attempt it, but then again.....................you can fubar your motor if you're not careful

$350-$400 is about normal, that's what most shops told me

but I got a CV axle changed and timing belt done for $120 :)

If you do it yourself, I think when you are done, your going to think $375 was a good price.

The hardest part of the timing belt, I think, is getting the crankshaft pulley bolt off. That is one tight bolt. Impact wrench comes in handy. And you should have a shop manual.

modoman 07-14-2005 12:50 PM

that is a good price. to have all that done in a shop around here is much mroe than that.
