Custom fiberglass stealth subwoofer project

I am working on a stealth Civic sub woofer project and am hoping members here can answer a question for me. Im wondering if the trunk is the same for the 2 door and 4 door models? I have included some pictures of my 4 door trunk for reference. I also will be showing my progress of the box and how it fits. Thanks for any replies.

Here I am making the basic form that fits into the passengers side of the trunk. Basic idea is to have a sub thats out of the way and takes up as little trunk space as possible. It also lifts out of place in seconds in case I need all of my trunk space back. When the trunk lid is closed the trunk hinge holds the box in place. I am making this big enough for a single 12 inch sub woofer. I filled this form full of sand and then poured the sand into a box of known volume and came up with 1.7 cubic feet of air space,by the time I trim it and install the front baffle it will be around 1.6 cubic feet.

Here it is again with a cardboard front checking fitment before I spend the time making a mold. These are obviously going to be fiberglass and it takes forever to make the mold. The front panel is going to be flat and will be MDF.

Well here is the first box sitting in place without a woofer. I didnt take pictures for a while and spared everyone the boring parts of making the mold and waiting for materials to come in the mail. It fits perfectly and takes up very little useable space in the trunk. Im also very happy with how the trunk hinge holds it in place when the lid is closed. I built a spare box and the mold is working out great but these are a lot of work. I painted the back of the box in a flat grey urethane car paint and covered the front with a black textured vinyl, very durable to take lots of abuse in the trunk. This has been going for several weeks even though everything is posted today.

Here you can see how the back of the box if contoured to fit the side of the trunk. You can also see the terminal cup with gold connectors. The box ended up being quite solid with a thickness of 3/16 to 1/4 of fiberglass, plenty strong. I stood on the box and it didnt flex under my weight of 175 lbs. I made a mold so I can build extra boxes and sell them on ebay.

Here it is again with a inexpensive Dual 12 inch sub installed. I listened to it and was really happy with the sound quality and amount of bass output. A more expensive sub woofer is not needed. It easily fills the whole car with bass, shakes the mirrors and provides a solid bottom end to my music.

Im asking if anyone knows if the trunk is the same for the 2 and 4 door civics? This will fit 1996 to 2000 civics that are 4 door models Im just not sure about the 2 door models? Here is more shots of the trunk. If anyone knows a answer to this please let me know. Appreciate the responses.

Im also currently working on a super stealth box for the 1998 to 2002 Accord. The accord box really sits out of the way and holds a single 10 inch sub,no pictures of the accord project yet, besides this is a civic forum. Here is a link to the civic boxes on ebay. If anyone knows a answer to the trunk question it would be great. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_500wt_1551

Re: Custom fiberglass stealth subwoofer project

Thanks for the comment. I would like to make one for the 7th generation cars but dont have one to make a mold from. These are molded ti fit perfectly using a actual car as a mold. Then I make the mold stronger and smooth and gelcoat it so I can make several.

If you post where your located, you got a much better chance of hooking up with someone to mold their trunk. Add it via your user CP so it shows at each post.

i think it looks sweet and would deff buy something like that if you made one for 7th gen, however, i play golf and would think a box more towards the seats would be easier to still fit my golf clubs.

Good point I will edit the profile. For now its no secret I am located in High Point N.C. I would like to make a mold for a 7th gen,but first want to see if any of these sell at all. Its a tough time trying to sell anything right now. Soon I will have a accord box done that fits 1998 -2002 models and that one reallly sits completely out of the way. Heres another view of the Civic box,you can see how little room it takes up. Also if you golf you can slide the box out of place temporarily, the trunk hinge holds it in place while closed. While open you can move it easily with no tools. Still looking for someone who knows a lot about 6th gen civics to chime in letting me know if the trunks are the same for the 2 door and 4 dooor cars???

Re: Custom fiberglass stealth subwoofer project

I cant believe no one knows if the trunks are the same for 2 and 4 door civics from 1996 to 2000. I expected this to be a easy question. Anyways heres the auction again. Be sure to compare apples to apples when looking at sub boxes. The only vehicle specific boxes I found were MTX thunderforms which are not made for the 6th gen Civic and are made from polyethelyne the same material as a 10.00 garbage can from walmart. I think plastic is terrible for a speaker because it flexes too much. The JL audio stealth boxes are fiberglass like mine but cost a ton {usually in the 500 to 600.00 range). http://http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotor...#ht_500wt_1551

I lowered the price on the civic boxes listed on ebay today. I figure its better to make a sale with a small profit than no sale at all. I realize how tough the economy is right now. I also ship fast and stand behind my products even after the sale,my feedback shows many happy customers and several happy sub woofer customers. Anyone has any questions let me know,Thank you.

I also added the Accord box to ebay. The accord box fits 1998 to 2002 Accords. To view all the boxes available just click my other items button on the ebay page.

These fit the 1996 to 2000 Civics and hold a single 12 inch sub. They fit into the side of the passengers side of the trunk and take up very little room. Internal volume is 1.6 cubic feet sealed. High quality materials, very strong and sound great. Front panel is covered in a textured black vinyl thats very tough. Email me if interested at Azenis29@aol.com. The pictures are at the beginning of the thread,I cant post them twice forum wont allow it. Thanks.

Re: Custom fiberglass stealth subwoofer project

could you make one to fit the driver side as well? i have a 98 coupe but need the mto fit a 15" kicker solor baric they are square.

Hondanut998 08-14-2009 05:23 PM

Re: Custom fiberglass stealth subwoofer project

Well this one fits the passengers side. I would have to make a whole new mold to make a drivers side box. But the good news is that I can make the cutout square or round for a regular sub or a kicker L5 or L7. I can even go to my local car audio shop and test fit it,they sell my boxes. You can also email me direct with questions at Azenis29@aol.com.

Did you ever find out if your box would fit in a 2000 Civic CX Hatchback?

I have an 00' EX sedan and my friend has an 00' EX coupe. Trunks are different -- coupe is a about the same length across the top but only goes down about half the length (hence why the taillights on the coupes are a lot skinnier) overall the project looks great man--keep up the good work!
