another person looking to replace new speakers
 

so im about to pick up my sister's car this weekend and i know the car has an old alpine HU with stocks speakers. i want to change all the speakers all around and maybe a sub with an amp. my question is whats the difference with connecting the speakers to the amp and getting a component set? if i get component set, should i get it for both the front and the back? or does the front and the back speakers all connect to the crossover that comes in one of the sets? im a real noob at car audio stuff so help me out!

you only need components for the front. its basically a woofer and a tweeter thats tied together with crossover, instead of having the tweeter as part of the speaker (like 2-way speakers). so if you got a set of components for front and regular 2-ways for the rear, you would still just need a 4 channel amp to tie them in together. and then the amp connects to the deck with rca cables, and the amp outputs the sound with speaker wire back to the stock speaker harness. the deck needs to have at least two sets of rca preouts to hook up all four speakers to the 4-ch amp.

Yes you can hook up a sub to a four channel amp, but you would have to only power the fronts, and the sub. The rears wouldn't be able to be powered by the amp. You can get a 5 channel amp, that does fronts, rears, and sub. My suggestion would be to just power the fronts, and the sub only.

I would even recommend using seperate amps for your front speakers, and sub. D class mono amps are best when used with subs. A/B class is what is usually used with component or coaxials. If you are not sure what A, B, or D class amps are. Search on google, and you'll figure it out.

^ that sub is good.

but those fort speakers wont fit. their mounting depth is too much. (assuming this if for ur civic)

even with spacers you needa go less than 2" in dept.

and it says "Also be cautioned that the top mounting depth is about 2 1/8"."
and according to the specs of the alpine type R speakers Top Mount depth: 2-5/16", so WITH spacer, shouldn't it fit?

I have those EXACT speakers and they fit perfect. they even come with a working spacer so you dont have to buy one. I also have those subs, but the 2-Ohm version. I like it a lot.

There's no difference with a 2ohm or a 4ohm version. You choose by how you want to wire the subs together, and what ohm load your amp can handle. Also look at the RMS watts that your amp produces at 2 ohms, as opposed to 4 ohms.

yeapp my amp pushed more power at 2-Ohms than at 4-Ohms. a lot more. lol. im pushing 700rms to em when they can take 1000rms together. theyre amazing sound quality, but i dont have the amp turned up all the way or the headunit bass. i use them for sq over spl. theyre quite amazing.

I wired them like Option #2 on that page.

So basically, 4-Ohm is wiring each sub with its own set of terminals, and 2-Ohm is wiring them all to one terminal. Not necessarily always true though.
