Street Glow???

So I've seen the street glow setup in mags and of course Fast and the Furious, but I was wondering if it is legal or does it run from state to state? (I live in CT)Can you drive your car w/ the lights on or would you just get pulled over and ticketed??? I've been thinking about this, but want to make sure I won't run into any problems. I want to be able to have them on while driving??

PeArlHoNdA 04-30-2002 12:08 AM

i beleive u cant drive with them PERIOD!! no state will let u but u can be parked and have them on. Just no driving, it distracts other drivers causing crashes and loss of life

well thats what the officer told me.....

JSWhaler 04-30-2002 12:20 AM

that blows, well guess I have no use for street glows now thanks

Hefe 04-30-2002 12:26 AM

Well..........

I talked to a lawyer......

You can, here in Texas at least, drive with them on.......
We have looked through the Texas Transportation Handbook and it doesn't say a thing about neon lights.......

i got a ticket for driving with them on, talked to a lawyer and he said NO.. it's not illegal......

As a matter of fact, I'm goin to court tomorrow (4/30) for this

JSWhaler 04-30-2002 12:35 AM

best of luck in court, but it seems like you have a case, how much $ was the ticket for?

JBlazeVA 04-30-2002 12:37 AM

i want the gold line red ones....

PeArlHoNdA 04-30-2002 12:38 AM

PeArLhOnDa

in MS they get pissed out the LED washers...man they rodney king me if i had neons on!!

gipperkid 04-30-2002 12:58 AM

I love in Ohio and in my hometown of C-ville...(cirlceville), I can drive with them on...the city cops even ask me about them. I drive with them turned on when I'm on the highway and the State Patrol and Sheriffs don't bother me.

Hefe 04-30-2002 01:18 AM

<< best of luck in court, but it seems like you have a case, how much $ was the ticket for? >>

Crashoveride 04-30-2002 08:26 AM

Good Luck Hefe, let us know how you make out.
I am going to get some this year and see if I like them, I dont think the cops will give me too much trouble but then again I have never seen anyone around here with them.

Hefe 04-30-2002 06:06 PM

Well guys...... I'm back from my hearing.

The prosecutor said they were illegal, I said NO and that i had talked to a lawyer also, i showed him some of my paper work Texas Law, (go to chapters 547.302 through 547.383... for those with time to read, and want to try and point-out to me anything that it says about neon) Oh and i did print out the above mentioned Chapters.

But he kinda looked at the papers, with kinda a blank stare, that i actually printed them out... he never did give me an answer, he just kept repeating that they are illegal, then he asked me if i had taken my lights off, I said "Uh.... NO", then i told he to stop wasting my time and mark on the damn sheet "Not Guilty"

Now I have to go back for a real trial on June 3rd I think....

Now a number of things can happen...

-The cop doesn't show up to testify... boom, dismissed
-The cop shows up and says he doesn't remember or he "thinks" he remembers... boom, dismissed
(how many peeps has he pulled over since he pulled me over on March 24th.... March 24th to June 3rd is a LONG timefor him to remember)
- Or me and my kick ass lawyer go in there and tear that place up!!!!!!!!!!
:)

Bethany 04-30-2002 06:27 PM

I heard you could have them on while you're driving as long as they're not red or blue. Because somebody might think it's a cop. I haven't actually checked for sure though.

PeArlHoNdA 04-30-2002 07:23 PM

thats the reason ive heard, that people will mistake the lights for a cop ok lets see

1) LED washer, small light, if mistaken for a cop--------YOU R A RETARD!!
2) those little tire lights that flash when wheel is spinning, if mistaken for a cop-------YOU R A RETARD!!
3) neon lights under the car that when ignited create the appearance as if the vehicle is lifting off into out space, if mistaken for a cop--------YOU R A RETARD AND SHOULD BE PULLED OUT OF YOUR CAR AND THROWN IN JAIL CAUSE ITS OBVIOUS UR EYES HAVE DETERIORATED SO BADLY THAT U HAVE NO!! IDEA WHAT THE HELL IS APPROACHING YOU FROM THE REAR!! AND R AN ENDANGERMENT TO OTHER DRIVERS!!

You know what.....now that i think about it....i mistake civics for crown vic's ALL the time, especially when i see a car when PULSATING red/blue lights on top of it, usually blaring a siren/horn.....i think to myself "WOW!! that civic is PHAT!!"

PeArLhOnDa

stupid rule....

Hefe 04-30-2002 08:13 PM

Plus if they try and use the "its distracting towards other drivers"

-don't look at it
-They are no more distracting than trying to read bumper stickers, or the sides of buses
- or cell phones

Don't worry i have a case!!!!!!!

Blingin01Civic 04-30-2002 11:46 PM

I recently put the Street Glow Gold Series neons on my car (green neons on Silver Coupe) and I havent had any problems with cops. All i know is that in Ohio it is illegal to have a combination of red and blue neons. Too similiar to the flashing lights on police cars. In fact, I drove past a statey and a sheriff tonight and didnt get any trouble for them being on.

Hefe 04-30-2002 11:51 PM

I've had my neons on my car for 8 months now........ I've passed a bizilion cops... now one cop decides to give me a ticket

Good luck in June...

MexMike 05-01-2002 02:12 AM

Hefe....Fight the MAN!....I wanna know how it turns out! I am in Houston and I turn my neons off when the PoPo rolls by, but when they leave...They on again. They can't fade my style Hope you win your case. I wanted to ask a cop if it was legal but didn't want them 2 write me a ticket right there!:)

SILVERCIVIC01: I have RS6's also....I love em'..they look great on our cars but a lot of others have them is only downside. Just my $0.02:)

sKwiD 05-01-2002 04:22 PM

I plan to get Orange (I'll chose to call them "Amber") Colored neons. I know for a fact that orange is a legal all around color for any car. So even though its neon, but orange, would that be legal? I would think so... I live in Texas too by the way (Dallas)

Hefe 05-01-2002 05:56 PM

Yes those are the RS6s', I love em, and I have not done any suspension work...... yet....

I'm too paranoid to lower my car... i don't wanna break any tubes!!!!!!!

Has anybody thought about getting White Neon Tubes!!!!??
That would look tight

Also for you guys in Texas... Did you read the Texas Laws link i posted earlier?

LJ 05-02-2002 12:00 AM

Blingin, you are exactly right, here in Ohio, you cannot have a combo of both red AND blue, but you can have one or the other. LOL, I have a family friend who is a sheriff helping me put blue under car strobes on in a few weeks, just to see if the highway patrol will pull me over for them, lol, cause I drive on 270 a lot, but he is givin me some, i'm a family member of a cop, just give me a warning card thingy, i dunno, its weird, lol, he just said he will keep me from getting a ticket. anyways, i've been pulled over by a local cop for my LED washers, but, the color blind maniac thought my white ones were blue, LOL

PeArlHoNdA 05-02-2002 12:55 AM

i was gonna get white on my blue civ which i thought would be sick but i just feel the white will get drowned out by darker colors, so im thinkin a blue/white/blue setup

PeArLhOnDa

luldude 05-02-2002 01:41 AM

I live in alabama and it's not illegal to drive with them on here. In florida, however, you can't drive with any blue lights on your car. They say the only people that can drive with blue lights are cops. Not even the fireman. I know this because a cop told me while i was sitting on the side of the road watching my car get searched after being pulled over for this very thing.

MexMike 05-02-2002 02:02 AM

Hey Hefe....I have RS6's also and my ride is dropped 2" with some Eibach Sportlines.....The tubes are not a problem at all....My magnaflow cat scrapes like a mutha though!
