Fitment Issues 225/45/15 Help! Hey everyone, Let me give you all the specs before I try to explain what I'm going to do. 15x8 +36 offset If I have 205/50/15 Azenis on those rims, I have 4mm of clearence on the inside of the wheel to the springs. When the wheel is fully turned I have 4mm of clearence to the control arm. Now I'm trying to fit 225/45/15 tires on the 15x8. The overall width difference from the 205 to the 245 is 8.2" to 8.9" respectively. So thats roughly .35" on added to the width on both sides. In mm thats rougly 8.4mm on both sides. Since I don't have enough clearence I decided to get some spacers(only 4mm). The ones I picked up are 7.5mm spacers. The spacers should push the inside clearence from 4mm to (4mm+7.5mm=11.5m) 11.5mm. Seeing as how the tire needs 8.4mm the 11.5mm with the spacer should work. Is the good or is this bad? Is it bad to have the tire stick out of the fender? |

Re: Fitment Issues 225/45/15 Help! that is a whole lot of tire, if u went to a 215/45/15 u might have less problems, but spacers tend to make wheel bearings go bad faster than usual, and can have problems with fenders rubbing at full turn, but its up to u, but legally, u technically cannot have any tire showing outside the fender |
Re: Fitment Issues 225/45/15 Help! Yes, when the wheel sticks out of the fender it earns you a seat on the Ricer Thread. It also puts too much strain on the suspension. You will have issues. |
Re: Fitment Issues 225/45/15 Help! Well I bought the 225/45/15 because they were on sale for 53 dollars a tire. Not to mention they are R compounds. The set of rims I'm mounting these on won't be on the car daily, these are my autox and track day rims. I also don't plan on having the car lowered enough so that it rubs. And I do plan on getting longer wheel studs if need be. Btw please don't call me a ricer, I'm going for the largest contact patch I can achieve with 15x8s. Thanks for the replies, however the question still remains. Will they fit? I don't care about sticking out, its more of rubbin in the inside of the wheel well. |
Re: Fitment Issues 225/45/15 Help! With tha kind of offset, I would say no. Not without spacers and longer front studs. The rears may be okay. With the MAC susp up front, my 225/45R15 Hoosier A6's with +38 offset on a 15x7 rubbed. They are about as wide as any other 225 on an 8" wheel. IMO. |
Re: Fitment Issues 225/45/15 Help! The offset on the new wheel is +36. I also got 7.5mm spacers. Hopefully the studs won't be a issue. They sound like they are expensive. Do you know if using spacers will have an adverse effect on the suspension? What kinda of spacers do you suggest? Thanks! |
Re: Fitment Issues 225/45/15 Help! It is not recommended to use spacers. Putting them there allows for improper torquing, which can cause bad things to happen, like your wheel falling off. |

Re: Fitment Issues 225/45/15 Help! Thanks for the heads up. I haven't pushed the car yet. I didn't get the tires shaved so I'm going to drive around on them a bit and let them wear down. Plus I'll kinda get the feel of driving a car with different offset wheels. I can already feel a difference in steering. As for the rubbing, hopefully the correct alignment will take care of any rubbing issues. Wish me luck. |
