help please, loud knocking/clunking sound So i recently had clutch slipping so i replaced it. Replaced all clutch parts and resurface fly wheel. Now when i drive, i hear a knocking/clunking sound from the engine. Mostly hear it in 1st and 2nd gear between 1500-3000 rpm. What could this issue be? Have never heard it until replacing clutch. Car has 160k miles. Changed timing belt and water pump at 135k miles. Thanks in advance! |
Re: help please, loud knocking/clunking sound Got oil? Recheck your work. Where does the noise come from? Engine or trans? Will it make noise just by using the throttle, sitting still? Stethoscope it. Locate the source or origin of the noise. |

Noise sounds like it's coming from transmission? I'm not too sure. Kind of hard to pin point exact location. When car is still and i press the gas pedal, the sound is heard around 1500-3000 rpm. |

Engine, or trans? Have someone else hold the gas pedal while you hunt down the noise Could be the valve or header? Sounds more like it's coming from the engine. |

Re: help please, loud knocking/clunking sound This reply is overdue..... but in the end, found out that it was bad valves/pistons. got it replaced, new clutch and new transmission as well. car runs great again...although it will never be the same.... oh well, this is just my daily driver and beater car. hate to let such a great gas saver go away. will be picking up a IS350 or TLX V6 SH-AWD soon for weekend drives.
