no muffler=performance??? or rice????

does taking off the muffler give any hp or torque and does it mess with anything in the engine or do people just take it off for the sound??
sorry if repeat post...

1028CiViC 03-03-2002 12:21 PM

do u mean..by replacing a performance muffler//
and yes..there will be hp and torque..and look and sound

importspd 03-03-2002 12:22 PM

well i know when u replace it it will add hp and torque but i meant just unbolting it at the cat..........

1028CiViC 03-03-2002 12:24 PM

hm..but that would look weird though..

bobbyd 03-03-2002 12:33 PM

rice sounding and you will probably lose low end power.

djlunatic 03-03-2002 12:34 PM

its sounds like minute rice!

your cat is right underneath the driver's side floorboards . the engine noice will surround your car's cabin and vibrate it real bad.

you'll look like a broke stroke

1028CiViC 03-03-2002 12:38 PM

don't think it's a good idea to do that.

importspd 03-03-2002 12:39 PM

yea it does look weird, my friend did it to his neon and he says it adds hp. he is going to run a pipe right from his cat to his bumper and put a tip on it. I guess its cheaper than exhaust but im trying to picture how it adds hp, there is absoluly no backpressure so, like bobbyd said, there is probably hardly any low-end hp left, and the high-end probably didnt go up much.....but thats what i think, i dont know, thats why i was asking you guys...lol

1028CiViC 03-03-2002 12:56 PM

i don't know..maybe you can tried it..

1028CiViC 03-03-2002 01:11 PM

cwon: why are you posting blank message?/

silvervtec01 03-03-2002 01:11 PM

my buddy did this to his accord, he said it helped, but im not sure. i was thinkin about doin it, because my muffler and exhaust are dying from my car being to low to the ground...

1028CiViC 03-03-2002 01:14 PM

eh..that's not good to hear that..but i don't think that's an good idea..personal opinion.

01civicboi 03-03-2002 01:20 PM

you DO NOT want to go muffler-less. you'll shatter windows.

importspd 03-03-2002 01:34 PM

shatter who's windows? i dont think i can get any closer to shattering mine, everythime my system hits my back window vibrates about 3/4 of an inch, im sooo afraid its gonna break

bambuski 03-03-2002 02:40 PM

"shatter who's windows? i dont think i can get any closer to shattering mine, everythime my system hits my back window vibrates about 3/4 of an inch, im sooo afraid its gonna break "

Dang, what all do you have in your trunck?

01civicboi 03-03-2002 04:17 PM

i remembered WAY back in driver's ed my teacher talked about that. i've never tried that theory though

importspd 03-03-2002 08:16 PM

actually i really dont have THAT great of a system, just 2 10's with a 350 monoblock amp, but im not joking the glass looks like it is bending all the time, its actually startin to sacre me cause i always have people in my back seat, and i dont want it to shatter all over them.....

CIVIC808 03-03-2002 09:11 PM

take'em off. i've been driving my car without a muffler for a long time.the sound isn't that loud. my purpose was to reduce backpressure so i can run my nitrous.
i had an exhaust to put on but it would be 2 inches away from scrapping pavement.

HaRdKoRePinoYrAcer 03-04-2002 08:44 PM

i tried it and it sound coo...kinda loud...but u lost alot of gas...so if u want the sound...prepare to spend more on gas...imo

Muffler-less... LoL. That sounds funny...

97civicex 03-06-2002 01:43 PM

i was going to go with no muffler till i could get the money for one. so i went to the midas and put on 2.5 inch from the cat back. it is very quiet actually. and it looks pretty stock. no one even notices my car. but that is good for me.
i have a turbo and that is one reason why my exhaust is quiet
