vtec switch point

My lazy a$$ has not bought a helms service manual/supplement manual yet. Well, I am wanting to know the vtec switchover point for the 2k2 HX, and duh a coupe 5 speed. I did a freaking search a million times so don't give me no f-ing nooby this and that, flame this

SilverCivic2K1 03-01-2002 08:26 AM

between 5200-5500 RPM's

SOHCScreamer 03-01-2002 09:56 AM

4300RPM

Ichiban 03-01-2002 10:03 AM

the HX have the VTEC-E... its not really a true VTEC. under 2500 only 1 intake valve opens anything above and its like a normal non-VTEC engine.

crazyjetskier 03-01-2002 10:53 AM

my ex kicks in around 4000 to 4300

2001 03-01-2002 11:06 AM

I have an ex and I know it sounds like it hits at 4000 but the dealer said it hits at 5500..

SilverCivic2K1 03-01-2002 11:49 AM

i have a 5 speed EX and I know that V-tec kicks in at around 5300-5500. I'm positive.

Mokushi 03-01-2002 06:16 PM

I thought it was right at 4500?...

IonRays 03-01-2002 07:33 PM

black2k1vtec 03-01-2002 08:40 PM

mine sounds and feels like about 4500...depends on engine load and viechle speed.

<< the HX have the VTEC-E... its not really a true VTEC. under 2500 only 1 intake valve opens anything above and its like a normal non-VTEC engine. >>

WTF? Now here's a crack head. Uhm do you know anything about the last 16 years of Honda's 16v engines? Well, do you know about 2 intake valves and 2 exhaust valves for every cylinder, one primary, one secoundary for each intake/exhaust. The primary and secoundary have pistons in the rocker arm which gets oil pressure via the rockershaft, via the vtec solinoid, which is controlled by the ECU. Well, I have better things to do, later.

Mitch 03-03-2002 11:51 AM

I am going to just get my own manual, I was thinking maybe someone with a HELMS manual would post some info. For all you retards saying I can feel it at 4k-4.5k rpm, you are just feeling max torq output. The automatics have a lower switchover point because they have a more closer cam lobe spec. So having the cross over at a lower rpm is smoother. With the manuals the vtec lobe is more significant and needs a higher rpm cross over for less lag and faster acceleration. I know it's more than 5k rpm and less than 5.6k rpm. Fuel cutoff is at 7,200 rpm. But like I said at the top, I'm going to just get my own damn manual. Thanks for all the posts though!

First of all you obviously don't know your facts...second I have posted on this subject many times...search for it... I know they have 16 valves And I know how VTEC works...but VTEC-E on the HX is different then the regular SOHC VTEC. For the last freaking time. Get your information right.

theSHADIEST 03-03-2002 08:31 PM

dude do u mean haynes manual...if not then my bad...just never heard of a helms manual...is it something i should know about....hey gotta be in that loop of info

Jimmy24 03-04-2002 04:42 AM

Guys, I got a vtec controller and it shows that it opens Not all the times, depends on some factors, but if you are in first gear, it opens at +-3500. Not at 4000,4500,5000 or what ever. Other way to check it is hooking a led into the vtec wire. If you are in neutral, vtec won't open. Again it depends on driving conditions. There is not a pre-set engagement point! See it by your self! hook a 12v bulb or a voltmeter to the vtec wire to see what I am saying.

Erichyung 03-04-2002 04:25 PM

the point is... we can't even hear our vtec because it sucks. we can't feel it or hear it. therefore, it's like having no vtec.

Ichiban 03-04-2002 06:59 PM

Yeah that kinda makes me mad...but oh well i guess as long as we know we have it...I don't think its that great anyways, I would rather have a stock turbo on like a eclipse or something over the VTEC.

Mitch 03-04-2002 07:44 PM

Well if you want to feel the vtec engagement then buy a Toda, Jun, or a Crower cam with the largest profile you are willing to cope with.

Erichyung 03-05-2002 12:24 AM

did u say cams??? haha i doubt they'll make it for our car. maybe in 4~5 years.

Mitch 03-05-2002 01:51 PM

<< did u say cams??? haha i doubt they'll make it for our car. maybe in 4~5 years. >>

Yeah ha ha, if you have the bucks and know about designing cam specs have them make a custom cam.
