Grounding the alternator?? I know a number of people have installed a grounding kit in their engine bay (either homemade or aftermarket), and I was wondering if anyone can tell me exactly how they added a ground wire to their alternator. Where on the alterntor did you attach the ground? Any info on installation, pitfalls, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I've seen a number of pics here on grounding kits, but I have yet to see a pic of where a ground cable attaches to the alternator. Thanks again!! |
The alternator actually doesn't get grounded with a cable / wire, it is grounded via the engine frame. There are only two things that get attached to it - a voltage monitor wiring harness, and the positive cable which goes to the battery. What people really change is just the positive power cable which goes to the battery. After I did mine (all main power / grounding feeds), the first thing I noticed is the windows and wipers work better.... |

Actually, there is a small 5mm hole on the back of the alternator. I made a ground wire from the back of the alternator to the battery. That way the alternator is grounded and will charge the battery as efficently as possible. |
