Re: 2004 civic Mechanic Special
Just out of curiosity (for any potential buyer's sake), did the timing belt break while the engine was running? Could be the difference between a 4 hour job TB job and and an engine overhaul. Super clean though, especially considering almost 240k on the clock. GLWS
Re: 2004 civic Mechanic Special
Timing belt broke while idling in parking lot. The motor backfired once and quit. Tried to re-start but failed. Towed home, removed cover and confirmed belt failure. Then re-timed engine (crank to cam) . Re installed new timing belt and tried to start . Motor turns over but won't fire. I was informed that some valves were likely bent due to interference. So at a minimum the head needs to be repaired or replaced . The car is in very decent condition otherwise and has a clean AZ title. Selling as a fixer or salvage.

Re: 2004 civic Mechanic Special
Thanks for the update. I'd 100% put all my money on valves being bent and it won't fire due to no compression. Not a terribly hard fix for someone that has mechanical know-how. For the curious, you'd have to pull the head, inspect tops of the pistons (due to interference engine design -- honestly should be fine), disassemble head, replace valves, reuse basically everything else that's not a gasket or seal (if you buy a head gasket kit, all required top end seals are included), slap 'er back together, replace fluids. My 2002 had a timing belt undergo a similar treatment upon hard acceleration at 3000RPM and bent all 16 valves. Pistons were 100% fine.
Good luck with the sale!
