questions about valve cover painting
questions about valve cover painting
ok, awhile back i painted the letters ( HONDA VTEC) on my valve cover red with model paint i got at wal mart. well today i was at autozone getting supplies ready to paint my trim pieces and i saw they had some high temp. paint so i decided to paint my whole cover this time.
my questions are:
1. should i sand the red lettering paint off before painting the entire cover?
2. should i use primer on the cover before painting?
3. how many coats do you apply of each?
thx for the help as always.

I would sand the whole thing down. Clean it off with alcohol or something of that nature. Prime it with a light coat. The spary it with the high temp paint. Go slow when painting it and it will probably come out to 3 - 4 coats. Then clear coat it to give it that shine and protection.
You dont have to sand the whole thing down but it will probably not look right due to the previous coats of paint already on it. If you dont, just make sure you clean it off with a grease remover or alcohol or something.
