Help: Lower Control Arm bushing...DIY?
Hey guys
I'm about to take replace my control arms. I was wondering what the procedure was to take off the bushings? My new one doesn't have the bushings on it, I need to transfer them. No, this isn't an aftermarket kit, it is just a stock replacement.
Can anyone help me out?
No PW's please.

The bushings are a seperate piece which needs to be purchased seperately (you can reuse them if you would like - but why not, they are not that expensive). Also, if you want, energy suspension makes polyurethane bushings for our car as well - I was thinking of upgrading mine sometime......

yup, i believe the product code is 16.3118G...i just can't find them anywhere
my question is: do they have to be pressed on/off with a special tool, or can I simply pound them out/in myself?

Well -
Lightning motorsports sells the front ones (16.3116):
http://www.lightningmotorsports.com/ene_acura.html
But for some reason they list it as an acura application and don't list it on their Honda page. The rears may not be available yet, I can't seem to find them anywhere...
I'm not too sure about if they need to be press fit in place or not. If you find out let me know as I too would like to upgrade to them too.

cool, for sure.
The rear is listed on www.energysuspension.com but i can't find it anywhere.
I'm thinking they may need to be pressed on? I've been reading up on other cars, and it seems to be the way to go (which sucks, i was hoping to do this myself!!!)

****! It does seem that they need to be pressed in/out. Check this out! I found this on clubrsx.com. Its a link that shows how to replace them on the RSX - but since our cars are very similar, it should be a close setup.

Hmm... $40 for the front ones. That's not too bad. I wonder how much the rear ones are? Maybe around the same price, right? $40 or so... I guess I'll go for it. So... My suspension will get (when I have the money): front forged aluminum lower control arms from the Type R DC5, rear billet aluminum lower control arms (custom), and front and rear polyurethane lower control arm bushings from Energy Suspension. Sounds so freakin' yummy!

Ok, I installed the lower control arm bushings this past weekend in the front. Its not a big deal, but you need a press to do it (or a shop that has a press). The easiest thing to do is remove the control arms and just bring it to a shop - they will press the old ones out, and new ones in for you. It cost me $65 to have this done in 1 hour. A hell of a lot easier than trying to do it yourself and muck it up. Overall the car drives nice. The new bushings are a hell of a lot stiffer than the stock rubber ones.....I don't really think you'd need a DIY for these since energy suspesion has one on their website. I bought mine from Lightningmotorsports.com - front and rear, for about $70 shipped. They had to order them from energy suspension, who drop shipped them to me. Not a bad deal.....

The front definitely require pressing (as well as cutting the lip off of one of the old bushings on each control arm). The rear are just a PITA. The control arm has a bushing which you must carefully remove the sleeve, than burn the rubber out. That is the hard part. Removing the bushings from the knuckle isn't as hard, but just takes time. I had to use a vise to press togehter the rear bushings (two piece design), but you may not need to. The P/N for the acura RSX front = the p/n for the civic front. I believe the rear is the same as well, not sure. Just look on energy suspensions website and compare the two.
