I was searching through the various messages about hood pins on CF hoods. And my question is after reading a good majority of them, I can't tell if there really is a way to flawlessly install these things. I mean, I read about the hood cracking and stuff. Or is this isolated occurances? I know that I won't attempt this myself if it's really that hard without damaging the hood. But even if a shop does it, will this be ok? Oh yeah, and do Sparco Hood Pins Rust up or fade or anything like that?
BTW I think I am getting a VIS Invader Hood for my car, but just don't want to spend the cash if the pins are going to wreak havoc on the hood.

either way it'll crack. I did a good job installing on my friends car though. U have to start with a pilot hole, then use 3-4 more bits to get to the size you want. that way there will be minimal cracking.

I should have my Kaminari Carbon Fiber hood in 2 weeks. I will be writing up a complete DIY post as usual with all of my installs that I do.

I had a DIY up a while back. Now my hood pins are slightly different, but the way you install them is pretty much the same. Check it out: DIY: Hood Pins *Updated*
I have the VIS invader hood with the sparco flip lock hood pins... The hood did not crack when I drilled it and the pins are excellent. I have never seen any rust or corosion on the pins they look great. I have stainless silver pins.

I installed my carbon fiber hood for more than a year and I didn't use any hood pins. It still looked as good as it was and I have been going above 90mph with the hood...didn't know any difference. That makes me wonder why is everyone so into the pin thing. I got the oem style hood and I personally don't like to use those hood pin because it keeps my car from looking "clean". I would say install the hood and then see if you actually the pins first.

i dont like hood pins either, but it makes people feel secure about their hoods. there is a possibility that a CF hood (or any hood) can flip up or fly off due to bad latches. the hood pins are like a safety net IMO.

i actually like hoods with the pins on more than with out. and plus, it's infact another security. like on of the member's hood's upperhalf rip off from the skeleton, and flew across the highway. that wouldn't have happened with the pins
