Valentine One or Passport 8500?
Valentine One's ads say that it's the best. Car and Driver placed the Passport 8500 second. radartest.com says that Passport 8500 is the best.
Which one have you used, and which do you recommend?

this topic has been beaten down many times.
if you can afford it, get the V1. I personally have the 8500 and have compared both side by side. The ONLY advantage of the V1 is having the directional arrows. My sister has one and I think it sounds annoying as hell.

1) you have to PAY for the ticket, IE can't take defense driving to dismiss it.
2) the ticket MUST say that you were using a radar detector.
yes it's nice that they pay for your ticket but you insurance rates will jump

They are both good... but i'd get the Passport instead... the only thing "good" (i say good because I don't give a damn about where the signal is comin from, with the stupid arrows that the V1 has.. regardless I'm gonna slow down once that bad boy goes off) about the V1 is the arrows, but I'd take the Passport because it's cheaper. just my 0.02
i have the 8500 and i love it!!
Definately get it!
its saved me a fortune..
except one last night, but i didnt have it plugged in!
lol but yes, very nice product..

V1 also has a bogey counter. which i think is useful. so that if your passing a mall or whatever, it'll tell you how many automatic doors are on it or about the alarm. if you regularily pass these places you'll start to remember whats where. so If there is an extra bogey one day, you'll know to watch you.
You'll also know if there are extra cops around speed traps.

Is the Passport 8500 VG2 proof?
Also, I like the fact that the V1 tells you how many signals there are. Does the Passport do that?
One more question for the V1 owners... is it big? I heard it can obstruct some of the driving view.
Thanks.

Where can I find the difference in versions of the V1. Like version 1.8, 1.7, etc. I don't see it anywhere on their website.
Thanks,

low charge? not really. if you have a semi-old V1, it can cost ~$250 to upgrade the firmware and the case. sometimes that price doesn't cover the improvements
I have used the Bel 985, the Passport 8500, and the Valentine1. I have to say that I like the Passport the best out of them all. The V1 is good, but it is set off by every freakin' false signal there is . The Bel was " I think" just about as good as the Passport, but the Passport had a little bit better range than the Bel. You really want a detector to have the Auto feature so it can filter out alot of the falsing in cities. The V1 dosen't have that feature. I recommend the 8500 as my first choice, the Bel in second and if you just want to be annoyed...Get the V1. Here's some helpful links and independant test on these radar detectors.
