Thumbs up Let's talk about radar detectors....

I want to get one, but I heard police can actually detect your radar detector? is this true?

I know they are illegal in Canada, and I was wondering what would the fine be if I get caught with one?

Last question, where can they be purchased in Toronto area? any places that sell them?

Yes they can detect it, but not all cop cars have that detector, I remember only a couple cars have them in all of Ontario, cause radar detectors aren't that popular around here.

The fine is about $500 I think, and they take your radar detector away.

There are a few places you can get them in Toronto. I remember years ago, Speedtech was able to get Cobras.

Alright here's the scoop.
Radar detectors ARE illegal in Canada. That is why you can't buy them in stores. I've heard different stories about being caught with them. I've heard of people getting $150 fine, $500 fine, etc. I guess it depends on the cop. There are rumours about cops having a new laser gun that radar detectors cannot detect, but it's not like cops use that one. In Canada, they don't really worry about radar detectors, because they are illegal and barely anyone has them, but in the states they are legal, and so the cops probably bring out new radars/lasers to try and screw the people over with radar detectors. As for your other question, YES cops can detect your radar detector. What they use is called a "VG-2" detection. What it does, is it detects your radar detector that is detecting their radar detector. In the higher end models of radar detectors, they are VG-2 "immune", which means they are invisible to the VG-2 detection. In even higher end model detectors, they have VG-2 notification, which tells you when cops are using the VG-2 detector, (along with being immune to it).

I bought a new radar detector, the model is a Cobra ESD 9000. I bought it for $150 + tax, etc etc. I spent $200 before I had it in the car. I said on a previous thread I was selling it, and I told someone (Can't remember who) that I would give it away for $175. It is brand new, used for 4 days, and works perfectly fine. I still have the isntructions, box, and everything you need. It is VG-2 immune and has VG-2 notification. I need the money for my rims and tires, since I found out I had to upgrade to Kumho 712s from 711's because I need a 205/45/17 size. So pretty much, I need to save up $250 before I get the rims, that's my reason for selling this. If you're interested, PM me for more info or questions.
