225 tires on a 16x7 rim?

Hi, I have set of 225/45/16 tires, but the rims that I want only come in 16x7. I know 16x7.5 is the recommended width. But how would the tires look on the 16x7 rim? And also would I have any problems, or would my suspension be weaker because of the 16x7 rim?

I've never heard of anyone trying this combination, but....

Even though the recommended rim size is 7.5 inches, it can fit a range from 7"-8" easily.

In fact, going with the narrower rim size might save the wider tires from rubbing because it should pull that widest portion of the tires (the sidewall between the rim & tread) in toward the rim just a bit.

I don't believe you will have a problem. How's that for sticking my neck out?

Good point BigDaddyHonda! Check out tirerack.com for fitment issues; they have a very good database on what will fit what.

if tirerack says 225 isn't gonna fit, then it won't. 225 is just too wide, all the traction you get without power is useless.

Dude, talking to my racing friends and they said that many race teams mount 225 wheels on 6.5 in rims. so I say they should be fine. AND NO your suspension will not be weaker with the wider wheel.

I also know of many people running in the stock classes (Autocross) that are runnig 225's on their stock 6.5 in wheels.

HondaLuver will become famous soon enough
TL type S Stock tires are 215/50/17 on some 17 x 7 and it looks perfect, my friend has 225/50/16 on his 300ZX with 16 x 7.5 inch rims and those look clean also...

i think if you get 225 you will rub, i did with 225/40/18. just get 215/45/16 because it would look a little bit cleaner...
