DIY Air/Fuel Gauge

Aight... I'm sick of seeing this asked. It gets asked like 3 times a week and no one seems to want to search. So here... Sticky and Bold this so that no one can miss it.

Open the hood. Look straight down the exhaust manifold. There is a plug with a bunch of wires going to it just under the header. Thats your O2 sensor. Trace the wires back to the grey connector plug near the engine block (over on the right side, under the radiator hose). Slide back the wire shroud so you can see the wires (4 of them). Put a tap splice on the BLACK wire between the O2 sensor and the connector.

Run the wire inside the car. I recommend you not run the wire attached to the gauge through into the engine bay. It won't reach and it'll mean you'll have to splice the wires together in the engine bay. You'll be better off joining them inside the car so you minimize the exposed wire. Attach the wire you spliced into the O2 sensor to the purple wire on the back of the gauge. You need to find 12V and Ground. The Yellow/Green stripe wire that goes to the Cig lighter is 12 V, there is a screw behind the lower dash panel (w/ the lighter in it) that is a ground post, or you can run a ground wire in from the engine block (I did this). Hook up power and ground to their respective wires and thats it.
The gauge will oscillate back and forth between rich and lean. Don't expect it to stay in one place. It will completely disappear if you're moving and you take your foot off the gas (good old ULEV in action), and don't be surprised if it favors the lean side rather than rich (ULEV again). It should go rich if you floor it.

Does anyone know how to do a DIY on the Air/fuel ratio gauge?

The DC5 rear strut bar fits like a glove...

It bolts into the frame rail in the trunk too

If all you have in your car is a cold air intake will those Air/fuel gauge really do anything for you or not really?
How much more stiffer dose your car feel after putting the DC5 rear strut bar? How good of a company are they? Im looking for a rear upper strut bar but Im not sure where to get it from.

Answer to question 1... It helps me realize how bad the stock fuel map sucks. And it makes for a nice conversation piece.
Answer to question 2... it makes a difference... and Cusco is one of the best JDM suspension tuners out there.

RSXmotorsports.com will get one imported for you from Japan. It takes a couple weeks and it's not cheap.

Make sure the gauge is grounded... If it's not.. it'll read full rich.

which o2 sensor wire did you use and alos which o2 sensor. i can't remember the color of the wire but you need to test the wire for voltage. it should be 1. the only 0-1 volt wire 2. the only wire that changes voltage as the engine revs. the o2 sensor under the hood is NOT a 0-1 volt. i used the one on the cat (2001 ex). just test the wire and you should be ok. 1 in 4 chance.

i figured it out
the splice into the O@ sensor wasn't deep enough
so the rich( green light) was pretty much just showing power
working just fine now
thanx for the quick responses thou
it is really appreciated

I used 18... That seems to be what the sensor is wired with, but the ECU wires look like 22 so somewhere in that range should be fine.
