when 2001 was 100% stock it got about 350-400 per tank. i enev broke 400 once on the highway. but now with all this sutff and the bad oil (long story) i get crappy *** gas mileage.

I have an '02 EX 5spd and during the "break-in" period I went 420 miles on one tank of gas with mostly highway driving and not going over 65mph/never shifting over 2500rpms. It was literally running on fumes when I pulled into the gas station though.
Now that my engine is "broken-in" and I drive a mix of city and highway miles I usually average between 340-380 miles on a tank of gas. I don't drive it hard, but I am also not a granny driver.
After the "break-in" period the gas mileage should increase.
Gas prices do suck ($2.25 in So. Cali), but my anger somewhat diminishes when I think of how much it costs to fill my tank up vs. how much it costs the owner of a gas guzzling SUV to fill their tank up.

2003 lx 2 door 5 speed 32.1879 mpg last i did the calc. All stock except k&n intake. Street and highway shifting at 3500- 4000 rpms 3345 miles on odometer. didnt change much since the break in. Notice now that my idle is smoother and the car is a little more responsive after 3000 miles my rings etc are setting in. Gas is 2.09 in nor cal for cheap stuff. Hope this helps.

My 02 lx 5spd coupe is getting 280 on 10 gallons. That's pretty bad compared to all of your stats. On the other hand, I have no need for highway driving so it's all city.
That's with little over 2k miles with magnaflow cat-back and FIPK II.
But, those shouldn't affect mileage drastically, right?

thats 28 mpg sounds about right. When was your last maintence and how many miles on car intak exhaust will bring it down some so 4 miles a gallon isnt bad. plus i dont stop much for lights or stp signs

I have a 2003 LX auto. I was making 390 - 415 during the break-in period. I'm not so sure now because I fill up when I hit about 2-3 lines above the red (I think that's about an eigth tank left?), but the miles say 320 - 350.

I only have 5300 miles on it so far, so I'm not sure how long my good gas mileage will last. Gotta get the oil changed regularly.

This topic had been covered a couple of times before.
The mileage varies from lowly 280 to high 400+ miles. It depends on the type of driving. High 400+ is acheivable with constant highway cruising. 280 is obtained by pure city driving where distances are short and there are alot of stop and go.
My 02 VTi, equivalent to HX, gives 350-370kms per tankful of fuel. This is even lower than what 'born2xLr8' gets in Cali. (370km = 231mls.)
I drive purely in town. Normally driving alone and the A/C is on all the time. The auto box goes through alot of gear changes and the rev typically yo-yo between 2k to 3.5k. Only occasionally I kiss the redline.
My car just went through its 3rd scheduled service. Presently, there's 11k+ kms on the clock. Mileage hasn't improved. I had even added a bottle of STP injector cleanser in attempt to clear the injectors of any deposits.
May be it has something to do with the way the ECU is being set. For certain geographical areas, the air-fuel mixture is richer while in others, it's set leaner?

so i think i'm pulling in around the same kms per tank as you guys.
was a little worried because my old EK was getting better mileage than my 2003.
just gonna have to wait till my break in period is over to truely find out how well my new car will go with a tank of gas.

Hi turboslug. So, we meet again, under the same topic.
My car had gone through two oil change(5k and 10k). I didn't notice any improvement at all.
Hope you'll have better luck.

Remember using the AC will decrease your overall MPG by about 10%

It's true. I've tried using window, ac, and other methods with each tank and saw the difference.

Yeah. That's true. But I live about 2degree above the equator. Temperature seldom drops below 30degrees Celsius. It'll be insane to drive around without the A/C and I might die of a heat stroke.

I got a 02' Ex Auto. I gas in about 10 gallons and I got about 220 TOPS ! I live in NYC.. its full of crap. I should of just gotten an SUV. I'm spending the same amount of money on gas. so wack. I got no mods, I don't floor the pedel, and I don't drive like a granpa. I drive "normal" I only have 7,500 miles on my civic n0w. up for my 2nd oil change so0n. If my miles don't improve i'm just going to dump this crap. ( sorry for the harsh words, I just don't like Honda advertising something they can't garentee! !)

I think it depends on your driving style. I myself will probably follow the 5K schedule even though I drive 90% highway.

Back to the subject, my last fuel fill up took 11.2 gallons and I only got 304 miles from the previous fill up! Grrr.. thats about 27mpg. I'm pissed since this is the first time its ever taken this much fuel for such a low amount of miles. Previously I would go 320 miles and it would take 8.5 to 9 gallons, which equates to 35-37mpg. Fooking weird. Now my gas gauge is at about 3/4 of a tank full and I've driven over 200 miles. Fooking crazy shiz. I called the dealer, spoke to a tech advisor and he said its probably a bad fuel sending unit. Its covered under warranty thank god.

Bah.

I got my 2003 DX coupe in 12/02. After 18 tanks of gas my average is right at 37 MPG. I noticed the mileage went down after the initial break in (probably due to more aggressive accelerating). I drive all highway miles, 600 miles per week. Also, I have seen no decrease in the MPG using the A/C. The farthest I drove on a single tankful was 500 miles (After filling the tank completely to the top of the filler tube). There is a BIG difference between highway and city mileage.

when my car was stock, I got an average of 350 miles until the fuel light came on (record is 385 miles). However, I got an intake and the average changed to about 335 ... then this 76 station I went to did my oil change and put 10w30 oil it in ... you know ... everyone says it doesn't matter, but then I got only 280 miles until the fuel light came on ... so I quickly did an oil change again right after that and put in 5w20 (the usual) ... and it slowly started rising again ... now it's up to about 320 ... and someone inbetween the oil changes I got a k&n fipk2 ...
