Neon vs. 7thgen civic (Civic no contest??)

Recently I've been chatting back and forth with this Neon Owner on this site, not bad mouthing just talking,
He says the Neon is way faster, and that the 7thgen civic LX or Si(cdn) is no contest...

all i can say is WTF? I've driven a 01 neon 132hp rental before and i got raped by a 6thgen sedan 105 hp and they were both auto,
I dunno maybe his Neon is extra special but the ones I've come accross are not fast at all, not saying civics are....

Discuss......... stick to speed I guess since the looks is a given for the 7thgencivc

From screamindohc

A stock DOHC 5 speed neon will eat a 5 speed EX alive as well. Adding bolt ons to a car that responds VERY well to bolt ons only increases the already substantial lead...MugenracerX(Hondawerx) is down here right now for the week, staying at my place in Atlanta. When we raced, it really wasn't a contest at all. Down low, up top, doesnt matter, the Neon pulls hard.
Perhaps I'll have to stalk down an EX automatic in my wifes 01 automatic Neon...I know that the Neon won't loose.

Anyway....if you live anywhere near atlanta, come on down....

BTW, Greg (mugenracerx/hondawerx) and I are going to race and tape it. So look for some vids sometime on Friday....It should pretty much lay to rest any debate as far as Neon V.S. 7th gen EX...

There are a lot more factors than speed/power to a car... In fact, I think in the small car category, the 7th gen is the slowest, and some cars from the compact realm might beat us too. This really goes beyond stick vs auto BS. In the end, a stick car still runs on the same engine. Face it, auto tranny's calculations and such have come a long way, and will very soon outdo any professional stick drivers, let alone us amateurs. The fact that they've built in securities to ensure drivers won't blow auto-tranny's like some stick beginners would is the only thing that makes the difference. I.e., how often can you rev up an auto engine to anywhere near 4k? Practically never. And Q for you manual drivers, how often do you redline your car?

I would not ever let myself drop as low to buy a Neon... Or even any domestic small cars, speed or not. Performance doesn't measure to speed alone.

I raced those new neons with 2.0 and 132 HP (auto as well) and left him in the dust...... all you need is a good take of... cause they have more torque than us

netCbC... do it up... for summer..... and have an Icon saying NEON WHAT??

"Just another auto LX leaving crap *** neons in the dust"

In the small car category, the 7thgen is faster than protege, elantra, focus se, aerio, saturn, echo. Ties with corollas, sentras, and is beaten by cavaliers, and neons esp. neon rt / expresso and cavalier z24. This is based on magazine numbers, but my street experience confirms it as well.

Auto civics will almost redline when they are raced, and as a manual driver, I redline my car all the time.

Maybe your boy should learn how to race because he does have a faster car. Don't get me wrong, civics are advantageous to crapaliers in a thousand ways, but speed is one advantage they enjoy over us.

Neons shouldn't be a problem for a non vtec civic except for the RT. But an Si can take an RT no problem. I've only run at the track 2 times. The best i ran was a 17.2. I ran a 17.4 my first time against a newer style Neon and he ran a 17.8. His was an automatic though, but still. That guy had been to the track quite a few times. You just gotta know when to shift. I know my car will run in the 16s. Just need to practice.

no, neon RT is faster than Si for sure, the driver just sucks, but other than RT or the new turbo neon, all other neon sucks

Yeah, it should be a blast. This time, i won't have my cousin in the car with my 70 lb sub box, wing adjusted the wrong way, and beer in the trunk. I think i ran like an 18.3 when i raced you. That was horrible!!!! I want to run in the 16s. Thats all i want. Maybe now with the Injen RD and the Revo short shifter, i'll get into the 16s.

Yeah, it was pretty horrible for both of us. I really want in the 16s too. I just don't understand how people on this site can complain with running some of the times they do. I would be more than happy with a 16.5.

That is so true. We won't be hiring for a while. The rumour is that come July, we are going to lay off 300-400 people because things are slow right now and the demand for Crown Vics is low. I'm in that group. The stupid thing is, as of right now we have 500 people eligible for retirement. THey just don't want to retire yet. Bastards!! So i may be layed of for 8-12 months. Its cool though. I'll still get paid 85% pay. $650 a week to stay home in the summer??? Sign me up!! Eventually these people will retire, so we will hire in the next couple of years. At least 250.

You're a bastard. I am outside getting burnt to a crisp, sweating my nuts off and you still get paid more than me. On the real tho, I hope it stays cool for you at Ford. Just start breaking those old farts' legs -then we'll see how well they work... He He He.

I'm not sure how quick the 132HP base models are, especially mated to their shietty 4-speed autobox... I wouldn't say 132HP can kill any Civic out there. If at all, the difference will be very close, in my opinion. Keep in mind, you are talking to a NEON OWNER. People on this site talk so much sheitt and spit out lies, so it's only natural that a Neon owner does the same.

Having said that, the 150HP R/Ts will definitely eat Civics alive (except the SiRs). It is absolutely no contest, since a stock R/T easily pulls 15's at the track with no particular refined skill needed.

well its a bloody dodge ... american cars almost always equate to torque at the beginning but they are super heavy.
i havent ran into a neon lately at least not in my car. .... but it should be the same. i guess its who ever is the best driver (heavy foot) that wins.

OK,

ill answer that since im an EX NEON driver with a DOHC engine.
the car is quick out of the box stock.

and also depends how good the driver is, my car was modded, good enough to land me a 15.5 @ 88.78MPH
not bad with CAI, MOPAR computer, AFX PULLY and mounts.

my EX car has beaten Preludes etc.... i just cant beat swapped civics.....
the Neon is a wicked car, i loved it.....

but it was causing too much problems!
before i bought my Civic, i almost bought a 98 Talon TSI AWD!

i should of bought that, though very small and not too mention heavy. it was FAST!

REDVIC: i guarantee you, that SRT Neon will RAPE U

pushing 223HP to the wheels at 250FT lbs of torque..... sorry man custom turbo or not, my money goes down to the Neon.

this thing is claimed to be faster than the WRX.
i know some might say WHAT... no one can beat AWD...

true enough but AWD is heavy... and thats a disadvantage, while the Neons FWD will smoke it Top end, oh yeah the Neon Runs 14.1 stock in the 1.4 mile, and the WRX runs 14.4

only .3 seconds away from eachother, thats almost 2 car lengths!

Actually......... it'll all depend on how much boost you are gonna have.

But I have seen a video online.. two guys in a WRX, raced an SRT-4 with FOUR GUYS in it... the SRT-4 still raped it.

Chrysler's turbo engines are ALWAYS UNDER RATED... check out the Omni GLH Turbo, and Shadow Dusters. All under-rated cars..

But most importantly, keep in mind that SRT-4's base engine is already 2.4L... already 700cc advantage over Civics. That is huge.. 41% bigger displacement. Which means you need to boost your turbo BIG TIME.. hope you have a huge intercooler.
