Mounting Amp On Box???????
Hey everyone, I want to make sure about this. I really have no place to mount my Sub Amp. I need room in my trunk so I can't mount it on the floor, and I can't mount it on the back of my rear seats, since I already have an amp for my speakers mounted there. Is it really true that mounting your amp on the back of your sub box will ruin it? I have a JL 12w3 if it makes a difference. The people at cartoys and tweeters does this all the time and when I asked them, they said it won't do a thing. So can I mount it on the back of my box or not?
I have mine on the back of my sub box and it seems to work fine... I did have to really tighten that sucker down so it wouldn't rattle.
I have 2 power hx2s and a 1000.2 amp if you are wondering.

I have my amps on the back of my box and no problems. If you bass hits that hard, not matter where you put it in the trunk it is gonna rattle a lil. The roof of my civic dents, and I can see my sun roof lifting when the bass is up...so in the trunk is prolly crazy
I know a guy who had two JL 12 W6s a few years back and his screws came loose on his civic that hold the speedometer thingy on...so take what you may from that
Ask me in 8 months and i will tell you if my amps have survived for a year.

my friend has a 12w7 with amp on the box..... his box is seriously strong...
doesn't feel like it's moving at all.... his dad built the enclosure tho and
he's a music nut Built 2 of his own guitars and other s**t.... anyway
his amp isn't rattling any cuz of being on the box...... sure as hell is rattling
around from the gut wrenching bass tho
Damn that thing is loud....

Damn that thing is loud.... I have 2 Fosgate 12's in a box and mounted my amp on top of the box actually. Haven't had a problem with the set up yet. I had to do it because I wanted to make it easy to pull out the box and amp if I needed the trunk space. Not to mention the fact the I ran out of room on the back of the passanger seats with the other amp and cap. Like I said though I have yet to have a problem
i have two coustic amps mounted on the back of my box. been like that for a year and a half. no problems, amps are workin fine. although one time my 4 channel amp fell of the box cause the rattling knocked the screws loose.
1 problem with this is that when crooks see it they jump at the chance, all of the package in one trip, i wouldn't do it, just IMHO, makes it too easy for them... if you need room in your trunk, put a piece of mdf in your rear seat and mount it there, or have an amp rack built by your local machine shop, that'd save you some room, and you could always mount to one of the wheel wells it you had to...

it doesn't matter anymore, I made my own custom mount for my amp to go on the rear left most seat. I know that that seat is small, but I managed to fit my Alpine M300 on the back of it. On the bigger fold down seat, I made a custom mount for my Hifonics apollo amp whenever I get that to power my jl XR speakers. Just for those that don't know how to build these mounts, ill tell you if you want to know. I just think this is the best place to mount your amps, since it is out of the way and convienient, since all you have to do is fold down the back seats to get to them. It is also cool when they are folded down, good display for everyone.
that's where mine were temporarily, until i built my floor enclosure. it worked alright, but i didn't like the fact that they were easily accessible by theives, course, i have gotten ripped once, and i am taking every precautionary measure to make it hard to happen again. any way, for those that don't know how to do it, you simply unzip the seat back, put a piece of mdf in there, zip it back up and mount the amp. i secured the piece of mdf to the bars in the seats, to keep it from moving around, but other than that, it's pretty easy.
