Question on Tweeters...
Hey everyone. I did a search on tweeters and few items came up, however did not answer my question.
I have an 2002 Civic Coupe LX and our cars do not come standard with the tweeters like the EX's do. I recently purchased an tweeter pod (also known as garnishes or tweeter speakers...) from an member here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the size of the pods is 3/4"?? Yes/No?? I plan on buying aftermarket tweeters, however don't know much about I.C.E. and which company to go towards. An car audio place here where I live sell pioneers, kenwood, polk/momo, and alpine. I was leaning towards Alpine, but the tweeter itself only come in 1"....and FYI, I am not looking into any type of component system yet...Maybe in a year... Oh yeah, and I have an Alpine CDA-7892 HU... Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

a component set would more easily allow you to run tweeters up there as well as yoru speakers in yrou doors. without a crossoer, they would need their own channel for power, each side. unless your radio has 6 channel output (rear, front, tweets) yoru tweets will have no power. or yoru door speakers.
crossovers cost $15 each on parts express, but good luck navigating that website. unles you know EXACTLY what your looking for its quite a pain....
Will teh shop be doing yrou install for you? they can probbaly cram a larger tweet in there. I did an install in a 4runner where the tweets were WAY too big for the stock sailpanel. 6 minutes later with a rotozip, they were installed in teh panel. perfect!
but running tweeters AND yoru door speakers isnt gonna make yrou radio happy wihtout a crossover. and at this point, well, youd just have a compoinent set that youd piece together anyways, right?
its really the only way to go, unles you want to risk blowing the radio internal amplifier....

Thanks for the reply, WhiteRabbit... Makes sense. The tweeters I did look at (Polk/Momo) did come with crossovers which came to about $100.00... I may just end up getting the Alpine Type-R SPR176a component instead... If I do get these it will most likely be from Circuit City and have them do the install as well...
What company would you recommend? Where would be a good place to put the external crossovers? Near the door or away?? Appreciate your help on this. Thanks!

I beleive that the tweeter pods in the EX are actually an inch. I have fit two diffent sets of 1 inch tweeters in my pods, Polk EX3 (I glued them in) and MBQ PSD 216s (the have a screw in the back just like the stock tweets...and i used a lil spacer/washer for the screw). Anywayz, you should measure the tweeter pod...and stay away from Polk Momo. i just listened to them today in CC and I was not impress at all!!! I thought the EX3 sounded better in the store and in my gfs car, at half the price of the Momos!!!
Yes, they are wrong....alpine speakers should fit, a 1" spacer will allow just about any speaker to fit the car. Take it to someplace more reputable than CC. If there arent any good dedicated car audio shops around, try a Tweeter or something.
Those alpine 176 A 's are BIG, I had to cut my door(metal) to get the magnet to fit in there, but they sound nice ! well worth the time.
Alos had to make a 3/4 " mdf spacer, but it worked!
If you are new to ice and looking for an easy install DONT get the type R's.
Just my 2 cents.

madmax, any suggestions as to what I should do? I don't want to have to cut any metal near my door to have the alpine component fit in.....So that's out the door. I guess its back to just getting tweeters alone. And of course the tweets will come with crossovers.
I just need to know which tweeter will fit the best into the tweeter pods without having to make any type of modifications to it? Sorry for having so many questions...The audio shop is closed on the weekends, so all you I.C.E. gurus are my only hope... Appreciate your help though!
Thanks,
Michael

tweeters generally dont come with 2 way crossovers, below 3000 Hz, youll be fine, but above the radio will see a far lower load than it should get, and thats when yrou gonna have problems.
unless its a 2 way crossover that the tweeter comes with. My bet is that it comes with a single capacitor as a "crossover", which is an unnacceptible solution entirely, unless your radio can handle such loads..... id be dubious.....

was anyone able to successfully get the Alpine Type R tweeter into the stock pod?
i'm planning on buying 6.5" type R components because i liked the way they sounded in a friend's 7th gen coupe. only problem is that he couldnt get the alpine tweeter to fit into the stock pod even when he removed the inside. he said teh sail pod mounting clip prevented his tweeter from going all the way into the pod.
