???? about custom sub trunk

I did a variety of different searches, but came up short with answers. I was thinking about building the custom enclosure this weekend, but I was curious as to which size speaker would produce the best sound (ie bass). Should I make it for a pair of 10's or a pair of 12's.

12"s seems to be more popular with bass junkies, but ten's are not bad either. I have run both in my vic, and I honestly have liked both...basically personal preferance. Some people will say that 10"s are better at playing faster bass music like rock, but 12"s are better for more boomy music like rap. Personally with the 10"s that I had the picked up higher bass frequencies better, BUT I think that had more to do with the sub being better at playing higher frequencies...and the 12"s I have can get a lil bit lower, but that might have to do with the enclosures that you use.

Enclosure plays a very important role!

I was going to build the trunk box that is detailed in the DIY section. The one that utilizes the spare tire portion of the trunk. So with that enclosure in mind, 10's or 12's. I forgot to mention that I to have ran both 10's and 12's in my vic. Right now I have 2 12's in a "bandpass" style box that I built a while ago. I'm just tired of not having the room in the back to use.

best sound is dependant on yrou musical tastes. if you liten to rap, yoru ont gonna want 10's! If your a blockrocker, your not gonna want 10's! If your a basshead, your not gonna want 10's!

if you dont want to waste ANY usable space at ALL, 12's might not be the way to go.......

If your front speakers are lacking in midbass, you might not want 12's.....

if yoru looking for an egineering challeng,e 10's and 12's might not be the way to go.... (can you say single 15? =D)

Im looking for an engineering challenge....to see if i can get two ported 18's in a nice looking box where my ugly back seat used to be. I will be heading to RTTI tomorrow to discuss install possibilities....since they finished the 350Z all my buddys are just sitting around doing training material...might as well give them something to work on...lol

The other thing that I forgot to mention is that.... is there enough air space to be utilized in that box or do you need to modify more. I calcutated only about 9.5 cubic inches available in each box and that is not including the speaker.

in a weekend? pah! if you want to make it look good and be worth while, you'll probably be spending more than a weekend. my enclosure still not carpeted has taken me atleast 15 hours so far, including designing... bottom line... don't rush it. you'll be glad you didn't. in reality, if you make a box really well, you can get a mid range sub to sound almost as good as some of the higher end subs. that's what i did with mine! my bass isn't really loud outside the car, but inside it's like you're gonna get diahrea or your ears will bleed. looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww bass

time it takes to install is all about your experience...

i bet me and whiterabbit could spit out a room full of standard boxes in the time it would take some of you to make one, but this is strictly because weve both built more boxes than we can count...
