Questions answered about R-1 coil-overs

After browsing this forum day to day i DECIDED to join. I might be a NooB on this site (love when you guys call people Noobs Noo-bs whatever)but im no Noob to the 7th gen.

on a serious note. R-1 coil-overs.

I have had my R-1's for 2 months now. I had sprint springs but the drop eventually started sagging on me. My 2" drop turned into 2 1/2 " after 4 months. 2 1/2" is not desirable when you have 215-40-18's. So i said what the hell, before i end up sagging a full 3 inches let me find a new solution, spring or new sleeved coil overs. I decided to go coil-overs due to the fact that i drive 20,000 miles a year, and the ajustable height would be greatly appreciated. My seach for coil overs didnt go well at first. Everywhere i went they wanted like 350 for ground controls, I was like screw that!!!!!

So anyways a friend of mine at a local shop called and said that he had a coilover set that he wanted tested to see quality, durability, ect............ The coil overs turned out to be R-1s Generation 2. so im like what the hell R-1!!!!!! I hope that there springs are nothing like the wings ( i think they are 3 feet high)!!!!!!

This is the weird parts. after having skunk2's on my last honda i would say that coilovers have a TOTALLY differnt ride compared to springs. THESE R-1'S ARE HONESTLY GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT BOUNCY AT ALL. WAY LESS STIFFER THAN GROUND CONROLS. these coiloivers put my sprint springs to shame. like i said i am no NOOBEY, i have dealt with numerous springs (tenzo,skunk2,progress,sprint,h&r,nuespeed) and these coilovers give a better ride than any of these except h & r, h & r are my favorite springs ;-)

My local shop is selling R-1's gen 2 for 139.99 that is a great price hell for that price you could almost buy 2 sets for the same price of 1 set of ground controls.

Highly recommended for anyone trying to save a little money

Make sure you get the gen 2, the first generation they were having problems they had to cut perches and a few other mods to the suspension

dissin my neuspeeds
"NOT BOUNCY AT ALL. WAY LESS STIFFER THAN GROUND CONROLS"
how is not bouncy when its not stiffer the GCs cause stiff and bouncy is opposite.
"the first generation they were having problems they had to cut perches"
its recommended you cut the perches when using any type of sleeved coilover. this is only so that its easier to adjust the height.
-there are couple different factors to also take into account. how low/high was it. what car was it put on. what were the condition of the shocks. what were the conditions of the road. any springs can ride "just like stock" on smooth road.

not questioning your knowledge but just skeptical that r1s are actually good. and plus i like a good debate

These were put on a 02 Coupe. Ground controls (Eibach) are Stiff, especially when you go 2" or more, with R-1's it doesnt really get stiff until 2 1/2 ". Since the spring isnt as stiff it allows more suspension travel.Personally i think 2 1/2" is to much for 215-40-18. rear was BARELY tucked and front had a 1/2" gap. To much for me, here in Las Vegas there is constant construction, a new pothole every 500 feet, its so bad that i REFUSE to use 35 series tires. i have a bent rim with the 40 series im using! IF i had smooth roads i would definitly want a stiffer spring like Eibach. But like i said for 140.00 you cant beat that. Ill be honest i was really sceptical of these and i was constantly looking and waiting for flaws, none yet, no sagging . the only thing that sucks with these is 1.they dont use and allen key like ground control, uses old school wrenches. 2. Front can be VERY difficult to adjust if you like it very low 2 1/2" or more. 3. They claim 0-4", id say more like 0-3".

I read on here that someone seen them on Ebay for 60.00$. If they are generation 2 i would highly recommend them

VNlilman, How long have you had your nuespeeds, how much have they settled since you first got them. And are you happy with the drop overall?

i've had them for about 9 months now. it only "settled" the first 2 days and havnt lowered any more since.
the drop i hate cause its still way too high for my taste, wish i would have gone with neuspeed race. other then the drop ya i'm happy with them. customer service was great too.
i'm thinking about getting the h&r cup kit. about 2" drop with adjustable dampers for $600. trying to get a sponsorship from them

why is the front hard to adjust? cause the perch gets in the way? thats why its recommended you cut them but ya its not like your going to go much lower with your tires so you wont have to worry.

i guess i'll always be skeptical till i get to ride in a car with them but ya as of now, you couldnt even pay me to put something on my car thats from r1. its like putting something on my car thats from APC. its just not going to happen.

oh and you live in vegas? not a badd place to live.. its a growing city, rent is fairly cheap, nice place to start a business... only thing i dont like is the weather, nothing's better then cali weather

have any pictures of your car?

dont you know, looks can be deceiving...
look at koni's, the "ring" on the rear shocks looks very weak and unstable, it has held up well in many cars.
b&g's look like it was welded from scrap metal and they are some nice coilovers

I normally have good vision but i really cant tell if you have a kit on your car. It looks like you have a front bumper cant tell cause the black is so dark.

I personally cannot find any kits that i like. Even though i still feel im missing something maybe side skirts.

well besides the sides that is.. the front just looks sick.. the rear is nice and classy/simple
it goes for $950 even when it's fiberglass. if i can get it for $600 its mine, probably wont be able to get it that cheap tho.
