a little advice (all opinions welcome)

I would like some advice on the purchase of another sub or 2.

I am willing to spend around $200-$250.

I know you've already gone over good subs time after time again, but I'd like to know if mixing sub brands is a no-no?

Right now I have a 12 inch Xtant and I need some more kick.

So I guess if I'm asking a stupid question, flame me. But if you can suggest any awesome subs for that price range, then list em!

Thanks guys, im such a n00b with this audio stuff

ok, well mixing and matching is sometimes good and sometimes bad, but is generally frowned upon since it can cause things like cancellation. you could buy another xtant, or, you could sell that one and buy some new ones

if you want our suggestions, then we need to know a few things

1 - budget

2 - musical taste

3 - how much space are you willing to give up?

4 - any aesthetic tastes you need to satisfy (does it have to look good)?

5 - do you already have an amp you wanna use? if so, how much power does it put out and what ohm stability does it have?

Ok..

1. I am willing to pay around $200 to $250.

2. Musical taste - hmm, I listen to a lot of techno and sometimes rap. Rap just for the beat, im a true white boy Um, hard rock sometimes.

3. I'll give up the space, all I need room for is my bookbag and my swim bag.

4. I'd like my sub to look good I guess. I think my Xtant looks pretty cool in its factory box with the cage on it. But im pretty flexible on this part of it.

5. Yeah, I already have an amp. Its an MTX Thunderbolt 4244. 4 channels, 200 watts x 2. I dont know the ohm values or whatever.

I have 2 Crossfire p1 12" and am very pleased with em. Great sound quality, great SPL good mixture of both. Comparable sub to it would be I'd have to say maybe MTX thunder 8000 series, these are like a step above those.

Ummmm, I can't believe i am gonna say this but for what your looking for two Shivas will be nice.

Also, I have that amp for my front speakers and it is a bish to bridge because you have to try and set the gains exactly the same! This can be pretty hard to do to (don't understand why they did that with the amp). I just tried to bridge mine tonight and realized this...so I went back with my comps being bi-amped. Anywayz, with that amp do you best to set the gains evenly so that both of your subs will have the same amount of power going to them. 200 watts will be nice with two Shivas.

this is actually a situation where i wouldnt reccommend shiva!

with the desire of "impact" not to say the shiva doesnt have it, but there are alotta subwoofers out there than can outperform the shiva in that aspect! (just not in any other category .... maybe box volume )

I would actually reccommend something along the lines of a rockford woofer, some 4 ohm DVC woofer that cna take 400 rms, a single 12.

the punch HX2 (not power) retails for $280 and $300, for the 10 and 12. they both can take 400 rms all day, and all the rockford installs ive ever heard certainly "punch"

put it in a sealed box, i bet youd be happy....

only other woofer i can reccommend would be a pair of w3v2 10's, i GURRANTEE you that will give you all teh impact you want and a TON more, unfortunately, thats a little out of yoru budget, but i dunno. whats the ebay rate for 10w3v2's? maybe.....
