Which draws more power?
For the most part will 2 "500" watt amps draw more power than 1 "1000" watt amp. Say the same brand and what not. For example. 1 JBL 1200.1 or 2 JBL 600.1? I found an unbeatable deal on an 600.1 amp and I already have one. I was going to go for the 1200.1 but if I can get out of this cheaper by just buying another 600.1 then thats what I'll do. thanx

i think power's power... they're both the same amp so their both just as efficient as the other.. whether you have one or two amps, i think they're both going to draw the same current if they were the same exact volume...
vinylmans got it, its all abotu efficiency!
you have your class D jbl 1200.1 wired at 2 ohms, and lets say 70% efficient, pushing lets say 1200 rms. p=iv, where v lets say = 12, and p we assummed was 1200. thus, at 100% efficiancy, the 1200.1 draws 100 ams of current. but its 70% efficient, so 100/.7 = 143. that means 43 amps of current get wasted as heat! and its 70% efficient? wow!
now we have not two, but a SINGLE 600 watt amp, produced by White Rabbit Industries™. My amplifier is a new Class R (for Class Rabbit®) which is extreemely accurate, much higher quality than any class a/b amp in the world, more accurate, and beautiful clean sound, all at the price of a 27% efficiency. 600 rms, at 12 volts (we suppose again) would give us a current draw of 50 amps of current draw. sweet! all this clean power and a low draw, even at full tilt! but wait! its only 27% efficient....
at such a low efficiency, my White Rabbit Industries™ amplifier draws an incredible 185 amps of current at full tilt! Class R® technology has a long way to go, still!
that JBL, although maybe not as pure and perfect as my Rabbit Amp®, puts out twice the power with less draw. so efficiency really does play a big role when planning how far you have to beef up yoru electrical system! (if at all......)

WTF? lol, WR, I think you misread his question or something.....he was asking if two 600.1's will draw more current than one 1200.1. I would think yes, but it shouldent be a big deal....I have two JL 500/1's, and one PPI PCX4125 running off stock electricals.....completely stock. Headlights dim when I crank the bass up (really badly), but other than that, no problems as of yet. Once it warms up im throwing an Optima Yellow top in, and upgrading all my underhood wiring to Zero Guage.....

it should be nearly identical.... all you would have to worry about would be powering a second internal crossover (and we all know the jbl doesn't have much there to begin with) ... the difference would be miniscule
