hey guys, i was searching around for a remote starter and alrm system and a few shops that i've been to said that you run the risk of frying your ecu with the transponder, any truth? i don't wanna fork over 800 bucks for a new ecu cuz of the remote starter. any info would be helpful, thanks!
No truth in that at all. all the transponder does is send an rf code to the ecu. if you send the correct one the car starts if you don't send the right one, it doesn't start. I used the 555i inmy 02 civic and it works freakin great!
It's nice to not lose a key cause of it.Hope this helps. if ya got ?'s pm me or post it.

that's actually really good to hear..... i'm determined to get a remote start, but if it's a gamble with a new ecu, i can't afford to risk it...... i'm assuming they'll need to splice into the wiring harness in order to send the signal to the ecu right?..... would any of this void the electrical waranty?... thanks!
just what you wanted:
yes you have to interface with the wires for the immobilizer. no it will not void your factory warranty.
If you are worried about that take your valet key and put it in a dei part # 555u. and slide an antenna ring around the key cylinder.
there are 3 wires you need to interface with the 555i.
immobilizer ignition feed wire: yellow/black
data wire: red/blue make sure you solder this connection because it is a data wire. quick connects cause resistance which may interfere with the transferring of the correct rf code.
key sense: red/white. will register as a ground when you put the key into the key cylinder.
I hope this will answer your questions. if want I don't know where you are from but if you are in ohio anytime i can do it for you. laterz

You dont need either interface. It was much cheaper to use 4ft of remote wire and a relay with my valet key that i don't use anyway. Its extremely reliable. I installed my car starter over 1 1/2 ago and it works every time.

Ok, here's how to build your own transponder bypass. You'll need one standard bosch SPDT relay. Get one at any pep boys or autozone. take a long piece of thin guage wire and wrap it around the head of your spare key about 9-10 times. Tape it on there with some electrical tape. one end of this wire will connect to the relay, at the terminal marked 87. hide your key under the dash somewhere. take the other end of the wire and go to the key cylinder. ( you are going to have to take your steering column down for this). wrap it around the key cylinder about 5 or six times. You are going to want to wrap it around the plastic part that has a couple of wires coming out of it. tape the wire so it stays. take the other end of this wire (which is still the same piece of wire) and connect it to the relay, at terminal 30. now thats the hard part. all thats left if to run a wire from terminal 85 to your remote start unit's status output or third ignition wire (DEI is a blue or blue with black stripe wire). and then connect terminal 86 to a constant 12 v+ source. Thats all there is to it. I'll throw the digicam into my car and take some pics the next time i get slow at work.

that's great, i can save some cash now .... hehe........ so it will only be active when the remote start kicks in and the imobilizer will still be active when the car's parked?...... thanks again!
