pulleys and alternators

I plan on getting a bigger alternator to help support my audio system. However I would also like to get pulleys for my car, but I heard that when you upgrade that it does not turn the alternator as fast and you lose power. Would a new alternator offset the loss?

Just a thought, but neons generally don't need that much power. My 12" neons run on 200 milliamps.

It seems to me that getting both would be defeating the purpose. A new alternator= less hp, more juice. Alternator pulley= more hp, less juice. Maybe you could find just the other pulley in the set for sale?

I was not aware that a bigger alternator meant less HP?
Im just trying to find a happy medium between power for my audio stuff and speed.

Now I'm talking out of my *** here, I'm a little hazy, but I thought that part of the high-output alternator was a bigger pulley? An alternator converts engine power into electricity to charge the battery. Thus a bigger alternator= less power going to the wheels. I have two 12"s, a couple neons inside, and a 800 watt amp and my headlights don't even dim. I don't know what kind of system you are planning on running, but if you think power might be a problem I would just get a new battery (Optima are good ones) and a 1 farad capaciter and no pullies, and you should be fine for all but the biggest competition grade systems.
