anyone know if the 2001 civic maint light comes on briefly for regular maint. intervals? mine came on for like 5 secs or maybe 10 but then went off. im wondering if i have to buy a book to check the fault that might or might not be stored in my ecu.

yes, the maintenance light will flash for a short period when starting the car after 8,000 miles, and then come on steadily at 10,000 miles indicating that you need to have the scheduled maintenance performed. this of course only works if the last time you had maintenance performed the light was reset.

also, if you need to reset the light (esp since all the times i've brought my car in for service--to a honda dealership no less--they didnt turn it off) just look in your owner's manual it has instructions. you hold the select/reset button in the guage cluster down while starting the car until the light goes off completely.
