I thought that the little mechanical guage I used was accurate, but not so. It was one of those pen-style ones with this ruler-style bar that slides out as you take a reading. I thought that I had 32psi up front and 30psi in back, but it turned out that I had 28psi in front and 26psi in back. At least that's what my new digital tire pressure guage reads. It's rated to within 1% accuracy. Pretty darn good IMO. The smallest reading is 0.5psi and it's incremental by 0.5psi. I set my tire pressure to 30psi in front and 28psi in back. I'll see how it rides now

I got the guage from McMaster.com for about $10. It's nice and durable. Battery lasts 5 years. I think it's replaceable, but I'm not sure. I guess we'll find out in 5 years or so. Hehe... It's k3wl 'cause you can get the reading at the tire and then take the guage away from the valve and see what it captured. No bending down to get a reading and no hissing as air escapes when you get a reading. Good shizzle. Highly reccomended.

Are those available at normal auto parts stores too? I have to make a trip to either Discount Auto or Autozone tonight (gonna do my grill install, headlight clearing and horn replacement tomorrow) would like to pick one of these up.

I prefer an analog readout, so I use the kind with a big dial.

I never did trust those pen-type ones. They would never read the same pressure two tries in a row.

I got the same reading from the pen-style ones every time, it's just that they're not calibrated right. At least that's how mine behaved. BTW, the analog ones are accurate to within 2%. [IMG]i/expressions/demon.gif[/IMG]

I like the dial type gauge overall but the pen type are good as long as you buy a good one. Milton make a good and accurate pen type gauge and they cost about $8 from any tool dealer, (Snap On, Matco, Mac, etc.) I bought 10 of them for my shop years ago and the three I have left work just fine. I'd compare the pen gauge to the gauge on my Coats 40-40 tire machine and they're always right on the money. But theres nothing wrong with digital gauges either, but even those can be out of spec.

well did you consider weather conditions?



otherwise i think i may have to get a new pressure gauge too. i am have been thinking the same thing for a while now.... mines plastic and i am just too cheap to pic up a new one.
