Synthetic doesNT = longer oil changes

my teacher at sequoa brought this to my attention, no matter how good the oil protects and last, theres always the oil filter that will crap out, unless you buy a really top notch oil filter like k&n, but still theres a rule u must keep in mind, u can never change the oil and filter too much, hope that helps people with their cars

I run Castrol syntec full synthetic 5-30, with a fram filter, when i switched it was like night and day with my 5 speed, i do change the filter every 2-3k, and the oil about every 10k, after i replace the filter, the oil turns back to a nice golden color, and if you want a REALLY good filter go with the fram X2, but there like 10-12 bucks where i live.

The standard Fram filters are the worst when it comes to filtering material surface amount. Not sure about the Fram X2, never heard of it. Here's a good write up on oil filters. This guys cuts them up and analyzes them pretty throughly.

oil filter study

For me I'm gonna stick with the Honda filters.

Yeah, you pretty much take the filter off, spill a bunch of oil (use a pan to catch it), then put the new filter on and top up the quart or so that you lost.

I think honda dealerships normally use FRAM filters unless otherwise specified.

From what I know, Fram makes the OEM Honda filters.

Unless you are running some serious mods like often used nitrous, turbo or the link a good ole Fram or puralator folter will work fine.

On a side note, I always have and will use full synth in my car. Why? Deposits. Synth wont do jack to get rid of them, but if its used from day one and always used, they cease to exist. And thats good enough reason for me.

I did a little more research and found this writeup on filters from a Prelude site. Looks like the Honda filters are identical to the Fram design, but different in the amount of filtering material. The Honda filter has roughly 33% more filtering material over the Fram. Ahh well, I think I'll still stick with them.. thanks for the heads up.

Here's the link.
