how to measure for trunk gas struts?
how to measure for trunk gas struts?
for those of you who have done it, how did you measure the drilling points? i bought 40lb struts and those are too strong for me to compress so i'm thinking of just drilling with the trunk and struts open, and let the trunk close it for me. will this work or do i have to install the struts in the closed position? thx

I installed mine with them extended. I measured mine with the trunk open. drilled the holes, installed the struts and then closed it. I used two 40 lbs ones two. The trunk opens really hard. It will be ok though when I get my spoiler.

I got mine from the local junk yard. 2 dollers for three sets. one for the trunk, one for the hood, and one just in case. I took mine off of a hatchback. even though the spoiler only weights about 7 lbs the possition that it sits(at the end of the trunk) puts more of a gravitational pull so it seems like it is heavier. try holding a full soda in your hand, now take that same soda and put it on the end of a stick and hold it. It will feel a lot heavier. same with the spoiler.

Can anyone tell me where to get trunk struts? How much do they usually go for?
And I don't spoilers are heavy enought to effect the struts....maybe i'm wrong
Yep, click on the link in my signature to see the thread with the links to all of my DIY's. I get all of that kinda of stuff from McMaster.com. For measuring you basically kinda have to buy the size I picked out and then mount it with the trunk open. You just gotta make sure that the distance betwean the two mounting points is not less than the length of the strut when it's closed.

do a search for trunk struts and see what others did. you don't need the brace if you get the ones that tap flush to the frame.
