My System - Need Reviews and have a few Questions
Hey guys. I'm new to the board, so let me introduce myself. I used to have a '97 Civic Coupe, and now I have an '02 Civic sedan (BIG DIFFERENCE). I had a pretty good system in the 97, and I'm going for the best I can afford on this one. Could I have some reviews on my plan? First the equipment:
-Eclipse CD8051 headunit (same as the 8052)
-JL 300/4 running the cabin
-JL XR650-CSi in the front
-JL VR600-CX in the rear (leftovers from the '97)
-JL 1000/1 running the sub
-JL 12W7 (in a sealed box now, debating whether or not to get a ported)
Install plan:
-Run the 0 ga. power down the passenger side
-Run the 4 pair of triple-sheilded RCA down the driver side (2 pair for cabin, 1 pair for sub, 1 pair for aux [when I get a Dension DMP3 mp3 player, also running a CAT5 for the satellite display])
-Run the speaker wire for the fronts down the driver side
-FatMat on _everything_ - the doors, the whole trunk, the floor, the ceiling, the back deck
I need to know how to get the carpet off, and how to get the ceiling material off. Help?
Thanks guys. I'll be taking pics of the whole process. Hopefully will go down this weekend. Sub wont be in for a couple weeks, as its getting re-coned.

nice equipment choice. i would run the power down the drivers side and the rca down the passneger side. theres alot of interference on the drivers side of the car, especially around the fuse box under the steering wheel.

the 1000/1 will kill that 12w7 in the first week, i would be extremely careful about running it very loud with that much wattage
no intelligently setup sub-bass system will ever blow, if you feed 2000 rms to it and be responsible about it, that w7 will take it too. ever hear "guns dont kill people, its the person that pulls the trigger"? improper (or proper) equipment matching doesnt kill subwoofers, its the operator whom set the gains, possibly or probably compounded by the person behind the volume ****. the jl1000/1 is a fantastic amp fo rthat subwoofer.
as to a "review" that 12w7 is by far the most awesome subwoofer ive ever heard, imo. Id definitely run a sealed box, as i like that sound the best. however, like slowroll said, hed go with teh HO box, so for sure demo in both enclosures, and pick which you like better. with that amp youll get plenty of power to get it to play how you like. for sure. so warm and flat its rediculous. you will be incredibly incredibly happy with this going, no doubt. id sure be.
edit: as to the power wire, ive got 0/1, fits under the door sil like a dream. youll hear it both ways, the reason i like to run power on the drivers side isnt for interferrance, but for ease. most of the time, the easiest spots ive always found through teh firewall are on teh drivers side, like where the clutch punches through. if its already on that side, why cross it over to teh passenger? similarly, seeing as the battery is on the passenger side, if you find a spot on that side, why run it down teh drivers side? unneccesary cable usage. added advantage would be less junk in the engine bay, straighter shot in.
but thats all dependant on where you find a way into the cabin, of course......for sure, good luck, and keep us updated on how it sounds!

wow, thats some nice stuff, especially the W7 and 1000/1, nice stuff man.
i also ran my power cable down the passenger side also, isn't that the same side the batteries on? ( i haven't opened my hood in a while, i'm just clueless )
i'm guessing that you have to take out the seats, and center console, and all that plastic paneling along the bottom of the interior to take the carpet out, thats just a guess though, i have no idea. with the headliner, try taking off all the piler plastic trim pieces, and then see if the headliner can be pulled off.
good luck.

go with the 10w6 in a ported box facing the back of your rear seats.
save a few bucks, and a little space, and you probably wont tell the difference in acoustics thru the rear seat.

I agree. I think JL subs are top notch, only to be compared with brands like Nakamichi (though not capable of long excursions), Eclipse (not quite as defined, and eat more power), McIntosh (oldie, but goodie), Focal (not very loud, seem new to me), and a few others. The W7 is only too much in an unprepared car (hence my reason for FatMat everywhere). Anybody agree or disagree?
I would have to agree....I love JL products....I have two 500/1's and two 12W3v2's....sounds awesome....As soon as I scrape enough cash together, i'm upgrading to the new 13.5W6v2....that sub is f*****g AWESOME. I've heard some Focal subs...it was probably the enclosure, but I think they are very overpriced....kinda boomy, not very musical. The W7 has AWESOME acoustics.....it sounds like natural sound....besides....it just looks insane.
SOunds like A nice setup, lighter cable wouldn't hurt I'll agree, And I'll deffinatly second running power on the driver side and signal on the passenger side. Other than that sounds good.
Oh yeah, I would deffinatly leave that box sealed unless you have a new box custom built by a pro. ported is a pain in the *** to tune properly. Sealed pounds.
Good LUC, post some pics when you have some.

Yeah, your probly right, I have just had really bad luck building ported boxes, but I can build killer sealed boxes, So I Guess I'm just speaking from my own experiance.
