Speed bumps and floor jacks..

In general, if I lower my Civic coupe 2" with 205/45/17 wheels(or something in that range) will I scrape most speed bumps if I have 4 peeps in my car? Lets say the peeps weigh 150lbs or so. Will I have any problems getting a floor jack under my ride? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

speed bumps yes especially if you have exhaust. the pipe will drag a bit but not the body or frame. You should not have a problem with the jack unless you have a kit. also depends on the jack.

Ahh yeah I forgot about the exhaust. I'll probably just get a bolt on axle back muffler someday that hopefully will be of stock dimensions. So I gather a ~2" drop is fine, thanks for the reply.

Without a kit and muffler it will be ok....the piping under may scratch a bit....but not that hard...

But with a kit...forget it....specially xenon sikde skirts... with a gold line drop I can't go over speed bumps and have some problem with floor jack...I have to put some wood pieces under the wheels to level up the car before entering jack arms...!!!

ya if you dont have a kit you'll be fine..
when i had a flat tire with my neuspeed sports, they were barely able to fit the hydraulic jack under the car.. it should be fine unless if you have a flat.. or you could always use your stock jack to jack it up then put it on jack stands

my badd, thats a typo... i'm paranoid at work so i'm usually flipping through the screen while writing something.. probably lost my train of thought...
i might get the cup kit when it comes out tho...

for some people 2" is a big drop and for others its a small drop. also depends on the size of speed bumps and how you drive over them. i have fairly big tires now(215-40-18) but even when i had my stock LX tires, i had no problems going over bumps and such. just remember to drive sideways cause one time i didnt and bottomed out on top of the speed bump.. wasnt too hard but i still heard it..

hey flotsamm...

I have goldlines and the magnaflow exhaust. the U-Bolts that hold the rear section of my exhaust together, scrape on all speedbumps. SO I just stopped taking them all.

The main reason why I scrape is the exhaust though. It's a major pitfall in the design of our cars....

if you note in the sedan, they got rid of the center seat "hump"...this is where the exhaust COULD'VE gone, but because it's not there, we have to have the exhaust way lower to the ground

it sucks...but it's a problem with our cars.

So, because of this, I can't get my oiled changed anywhere but my own driveway, and now that it's winter...I can't go to a carwash place, because my OEM skirts will scrape on everything

so my car is now white due to salt, instead of nighthawk black

it sucks...but to be honest, it's worth it! handling is a bit better, and it looks WAY better.

I'd go with a 1.5-1.75 drop...no tire rubbing.

good luck!

Thanks Tek for the reply, good info. Makes me wonder though if you didnt have the exhaust work done on your car if you would still scrape.. hrrmph...

Well, after I had it lowered, I took a speedbump that seemed scary (it was scary even withOUT lowering my car...sideskirts kill)...and I didn't scrape!

It all depends on how you drive, too. so long as you take it one wheel at a time, you'll be fine.

The exhaust is the main killer, I'd say. Man, I can't even make it into my garage without scraping! BUT, it's just the exhaust that scrapes.

Now, for the oil changes, it's the sideskirts + lowering. If you have to drive up on the ramp lifts, it'll scrape your skirts. Seeing as that's what all the places around here have...I'm screwed.

However, turning performance has increased enough for me to be satisfied! Sure, I have problems with clearance, and can't clean my car...but that's all the qualms I have with the springs + exhaust. Other than that, I love them both

Good luck with your quest!

Cheers

I have neuspeed sports on my sedan and can barely get my jack under the front of the car. I jack it up just behing the bumper so the whole front end goes up. I have to force the jack under the bumper.

I have the magnaflow as well. Mine is welded and as a result it has no u-bolts. The magnaflow is just a ishy system. The midpipe simply hangs to low. The stock midpipe doesn't hang anywere near that low. I scrape on all but the most insignificant bumps. I mean the darn pipe is like 3 inches off the ground. It doesn't matter if you go at an angle either. I have had the pipe pushed right up aganst the bottom of the car many times. Not a good "thump" to hear.

I have also almost gotten stuck twice. Once when leaving a doctor's office and once in a parking garage. So, don't think that the 2" isn't going to be much because it doesn't sound like it. It's quite a lot and you will have to change your driving style. YOu get used to it and it's well worth it imo. Nothing like the look and handling of a lowered car. Just don't drop it into the weeds. That's for showcars and cars that only see race tracks.

EVentually, I am cutting off that magnaflow, putting the stock sytem back on and buying an hks or something. If it wasn't for that midpipe, I would never scrape but still would have gotten stuck.

Thank for the reply mbow. I think I'll stay away from the Magnaflow system for sure, seems like its not made for lowered vics.

I just measured under my vic which is stock except for some 205/40's on 17"s. The mid pipe is about 4 3/4" off the ground at its lowest part. I plan on lowering my vic with some Eibach Sportlines(1.4" drop). That should give me about a ~3 1/4" of ground clearance at the mid pipe.. now I'm starting to wonder if I want to go this low, even if it doesnt sound like alot! Grrrrrrrrrrr! WTF to do.. hrrmph.

1.4" isn't that much. I thought the sportlines dropped more than that. The exhaust pipe scraping isn't that big of a deal. It is more annoying than anything.

You should be fine with a 1.4" drop. It won't give ya that nice lowered look though. I had prokit springs before I had the neuspeed sports. No one could tell my car was lowered with the 1" drop but it did have a more sporty appearance. The sports are 1.75" front, 1.5" rear and I have a 1 finger gap all around for the most part. Pretty much everyone can tell its lowered as I tend to ask to make sure...LOL

You'll be fine with the sportlines. I would add SPC rear camber kits and konis to your list as well. Stock struts will last for a few months but you will eventually need the konis which means another alignment and another few hrs spent putting them in. REar cambers for sure...

I have front/rear camber kits but oe struts. Gettin konis on Wednesday. Now, I have to spend more time putting them in and paying for another fricken alignment...My ish CAN be aligned because I do have the camber kits...just some stuff to think about..

You'll love it man! It's worth it!
