How often should you clean your intake filter?
I installed my FIPK about 2000 miles ago. How often should you clean it with that kit they give you? Is it hard to do? How long does it take?
Thanks,

I have an injen intake, with a K&N style filter, and on the filter recharging kit it gives some huge number like 50,000 miles before you should clean your filter. I don't rememeber exactly, cuz I'm at the dorms right now and its in the garage at home, but it said something like the dirt particles that accumulate on the outside of the filter actually help the filter. Cleaning the filter frequently is not recomended and is not good for the filter.

your FIPK (like mine) came with instructions regarding cleaning the million mile warrantied K&N filter it came with. i dont remember exactly when it should be done, it says so in the instructions. your FIPK should have come with a "recharger" kit that has cleansing solutionis. it doeant look that hard to do, pretty simple i think.

The instructions from the cleaning kit say never wash from the outside because it presses dirt down into the fibers. So you may want to rethink the high pressure hose method.
I cleaned mine out after about 10000 miles and it was pretty dirty. I think 2000 is probably a bit early though. You can prolly wait a while. I also recommend the aerosol cleaning kit as opposed to the pump spray one... it's easier to use. They both have the same stuff in them, but one sprays constantly (aerosol) the other one you need to keep pumping.

I would say every 20 - 30k miles because washing it too much will cause the cotton fibers in the filter to diminish. Of couse all of this depends on how dirty the air is but I guess you can every 10k miles. They actually have something to measure air flow to determine if you need to wash it our not.
ive had my K&N fipk on for 6500 miles now and havent cleaned it yet and i just started noticing a little hesitation and its not as loud as it used to be at wot. probably around 6000 miles is my guess to clean it. i better go clean it.

K&N says check every 30,000 miles if it's dirty and clean every 50,000 miles regardless of cleanliness. That's probably good advise for K&N air filters that are within stock assemblies. If the filter element is exposed (like in a CAI, or SRI) then I would clean it when it's visibly dirty.
