Turbo questions?

Hey I was thinking of getting a turbo from turbo-performance.com but I have a few questions.

1) I called the guy at t-p.com and he said that the turbos are set at 5-6 psi. probably by a boost controller or something like that. How much psi can an engine with an CAI and DC sports TCS cat-back hold saftely (new headers are included in the kit)?

2) The guy also said that the turbos can go to around 22 psi. I don't want to run it that high but i would like to get it to about 12-15 psi. What internals do i need to have to lower compression? i.e. another gasket welded on.....

Thanks a lot

also did anyone hear about that turbo kit that was supposed to come out into production january? Anybody know how far it is away and how much it costs?

It doesn't matter what intake you have and header or exhaust, thats just for air flow, also a turbo has it's own manifold so you won't have a header, you will have a turbo manifold for the type of turbo you have. the d17 can only handle 4 psi with out fuel system up grades. with that 8 psi, anything over that you will need to upgrade internals, rods, pistons, cylinder wall, valves. if you do all that. referred to as a "built block" buf if you do that the car can handle 12-15 psi but will also need to upgrade the intake manifold and fuel lines to handle the added pressure running threw them. your car also has a returnless fuel system and thats where you will run in to many problems and the fuel system upgrades will come in. to upgrade you will need the extra fuel delivery there are a couple of options but there isn't really a FM unit to control it, extra injector with it's own computer, bigger injectors but you will need a computer to control that and thats not out, or convert to a return fuel system and new computer. custom reprogaming is possible if you have the time and money for the fuel system. you will see more turbo's when a company comes out with a Fuel Management unit. there are a lot of things you can do, check out some old threads for more info.

no production tubros out yet and haven't heard anything, companies keep changing dates, scrapping projects of putting them on hold.

1- you can't use a CAI with a turbo. A turbo has it's own intake. And the 5-6psi is set by the spring in the wastegate, there is no boost controller installed.

2- To hit anything above 4psi, you'll have to do fuel upgrades (standalone with additional injector or higher flow injectors replacing the stock) which are not included with the turbo performance kit. That will get you up to 10psi, past that, you need rods, pistons, valves, valve springs, bore and sleeve the block, metal headgasket, and an aftermarket ECM (like the AEM EMS or Hondata when they come out), along with a bigger fuel pump, bigger lines, bigger injectors. You do not need to lower compression for the turbo, that's a common misconception. All you need to do is strengthen the internals, and provide enough fuel, and you can hit high boost on our stock compression level.

so you are saying that i can replace all four of the injectors with 340cc rc injectors and i can run up to 8 psi without any problems or any more fuel system mods

You will need either a standalone fuel computer or a replacement ECM to control the bigger injectors, and that computer will need to be tuned on a dyno with a wideband o2 sniffer.

You can also add a 460 injector before the throttle body controlled by an additional injector controller (like the Haltech F5) and keep the rest of the fuel system stock. This option will also need to be tuned on the dyno with a wideband o2 sniffer.

Both methods work well, it's more preference of the individual.
