RSX sway bar + Koni's feel good~

Finally got my sway bar installed, damn, that took forever.

Anyway, ride is phenominal! I was a little doubtful at first, as everyone was given critical acclaim to the upgrade and the cost was so little! Well, it's great! My rear end is now very stable, felt it right from the start. When I used to go over little bumpy roads, my rear would feel like it'd bounce a bit from the impact, but now it just cruises over. Of course, now that the rear end is so stiff, I'm understeering big time. I've even turned my Koni's up half more on stiffness and it's still too stiff up back, so I'll need to pop a strut bar up front to tighten up the front too.

But on the upside, I'm 3 bars away from complete suspension upgrade, haha...

to RSX sway bar upgrade.

Did it at Hitech last summer, I was charged altogether $1700 tax in labour in for both Sportline and Koni's. I figured it was a good price for the set then (I actually did the springs first and shocks three weeks later).

I think Hitech did one more set of yellows after mine (TTCivic). The work is a bit of a monster, I was standing there for three hours while three guys (at one point) worked on various parts of the install. I suppose they will do it faster now that they've had exposure.

You might want to look at the Tein coils for an alternative. Marc's got them.

umm the rear sway bar should really make your steering more balanced..not cause more understeer....unless your front end is really flexing.

Naw, it will cause it to understeer.. it's too tight in the back. Think about it.. if it grips more in the back, it HAS to understeer... or at least you'll certainly notice it more. Think of it as putting on stickier tires in the back only.. front will understeer more for sure. It's a normal thing..

MSoft, thanks for your posts... I find your stuff very informative.

you have no idea how suspension dynamics and weight transfer works...

I think 01coupe's just agreeing with what I feel as compared to the stock sway bar, maybe we're using the wrong terms. What I'm trying to say is the back now seems to be dragging. Maybe that's actually expected and isn't really understeering, but my point on the post is that I feel I'll need the front stiffened up and the Koni's alone might not be enough. I actually haven't driven the car insanely fast on turns (snow tires, don't wanna wear out) yet so I haven't tested the turning ability out yet...

Maybe I should go for the Xbar instead? What is the practical difference between a front strut bar and a front Xbar?

You have to realize that he used an RSX sway bar, something that is not even designed for his car. It is over sized. Even though it does a better job, the balance is not there compared to the front.

If you know something that we don't know and would like to SHARE it with us, please go ahead.. just because you do not agree with a couple of people on here, does not mean we have NO IDEA how suspension dynamics work.

Hmmm... It's $1200 or so for the parts alone. I would daresay HiTech will charge probably $200~$300 for install, as it's quite involved.

I went to the Sheppard one. Feel free to give them a call and tell them you're friend with Aaron, and maybe they'll mark down the install a bit. I'm sure they earn enough off the parts alone...

Okay.. a larger rear sway bar will help work to prevent understeer..using a rear sway bar which is too large can cause oversteer in FWD cars...like the ITR's..22mm Front sway bar, 24MM rear..FWD car which can oversteer...

The problem with Msofts car would chassis flexing..the front end twisting and not allowing his front suspension to do it's job.. a Strut tower brace and subframe brace would fix that right up.//

Thx for the input Mohawkboom. That's what I thought too, so I'll look for a strut bar up front.

How about the Neuspeed Xbar? It's been talked about in the other forums, would that function better than a strut bar in this case?

ok wait, i was positive that if you tighten up the rear suspension, it would get rid of understeer and in some circumstances create OVERsteer...

is this not correct? is this what you all finally agreed upon?

I hate the understeer of FWD, and want to tighten up the rear to get rid of it. Do you guys think RSX-S, or progress technologies?

I thought it was oversteer that haunt FWD cars?? I could be wrong.

Anyway, without debating over terminology, the answer is the Neuspeed bar. Assuming that the car was understeering at first (i.e., back end loseing out), then the sway bar corrected that and actually went too far to caused it to oversteer (now backend is too tight, can't keep up with a turn), the Neuspeed front strut bar I got tightened up the front so that now it's an even turn.

I hope that makes sense...
