Killed me a rustang

I'm goin home christmas night with my girl in the car when we pull to this light and next to a 01-03 mustang V6. I kinda inconspicuoiusly look over and sure enough him and he boyfriend next to him are eyeballin the helloutta me. So I figure wutever we can do it if he wants, nobody else on the road. When the other light turned he started reving and I knew he was watchin the other light too, so I got ready to jump. When the light turned we both nailed it, I pulled ahead in first and kept my 1/4 length through 2nd and shifted to 3rd and still had him, I had to turn so I swerved into the turn lane and hit the brakes and he goes flyin by my and has nerve enough to put his flashers on!! F@ckin retard, I think somwhere in the manual it should say "not intended for racing, only carrying groceries and the kids home from soccer practice." And whats the deal with the flashers, he really thinks he burnt me. Loser, just had to vent

Good kill........how long was the race........he might have though you gave up if you all of a sudden pulled over to turn like that. How far ahead of him were you? I race my friend's 2000 V6 stang(same generation as the one you raced) and he and I are always neck and neck. He wins some, I win some. Do you have any mods on your car?

I was able to beat an Si turbo, only at take off though, second even, third he pulled away, fourth to ahead to catch up. I lose to my brother in his integra all the time, unless I jump then i get a good start but thats it.

One of my previous cars was a '99 Mustang V6 5spd. Although it was a head turner (due to the polished 17" Cobra R rims and Flowmaster dual catback exhaust) it was often a pain to race. I don't know if Ford has fixed it, but shifting quickly from 2nd to 3rd was rediculous. It would grind and not go in at first. I would usually have a jump on most imports then lose miserably when I couldn't get into 3rd. I guess its common for the current generation 5spd Stangs.

A guy I work with recently bought a '00 Stang V6 5spd and when he first saw my '02 EX 5spd he asked if my car was quicker than his. I told him that his was slightly faster, but then I remembered that he hasn't been driving it long and if it has that 2nd to 3rd shifting problem I might beat him. After reading about 7th gen EXs often beating V6s I think I might race him at a track. Our cars are both stock. Should I go for it? I really can't lose to this guy because I'll never hear the end of it!

Is your co-worker a good driver. I am sure many have seen the race come down to the driver not the car.

I agree that a lot of mustang drivers can do dumb stuff like that guy did. Really, there are very few people who aren't jerks on the road today unfortunately. Anyway, like you guys have said, almost any race comes down to the driver. The autos in the stangs are pretty terrible. They are WAY slower than the 5-speeds. I've raced one with 2 extra people in the car and I still took him with a bad launch. Basically, the autos are reasonable to beat for a 7th gen with a good driver whereas a well driven 5-speed would be out of a stock civic's league. I've ridden in my friends auto EX and its not as fast as my car, but it is no slouch. This is all referring to the 99 and up mustangs (190hp, 225tq, Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords got a stock one to run 14.94 in the quarter BONE STOCK), not the earlier ones. The earlier ones had 40-45 less hp, a little less tq, and 2.73 gears instead of 3.27's. So those would definately be beatable. And to whoever said that the 2-3 shift in the new stangs is hard, you are right. Every once in a while I would slam the stick into the gate and then have to slow down. I just got a Steeda Short throw shifter and that clears up that problem, but that was definately annoying.

Cliff Notes: 7th Gen vs: 98- v6 stangs= good race
99+ autos= possible kill
99+ 5speed= kill unlikely with good driver

I am not meaning this as a flame to civics (notice I didn't say that mustangs would always win or anything), just giving you guys a little info from the other side. See ya

Oh yeah, I mean, if he wanted a muscle car he shoulda gotten a Civic, right? Thumbs up to you for being a good driver, but don't knock the car for the driver. I'd bet that if you were in the Stang, you would've taken him on skill/power. In the Civic, you took him with skill. 5SpeedStallion is right, if the driver of the Mustang was good, you would have no chance. Some people just don't know the difference between a V6 and a V8, so they just see "Mustang" and figure its the fastest thing on four wheels. There should be an education class before buying a car.

new stang's are better than 94-98's. 1999+ 3.8's are 193 hp and 225 lbs tq stock and is a major improvement. the 94-98's are a joke actually

that they are..........
I've seen the newer V6's at the track running similar times to me, so it would be pretty much a driver's race........
