Strut Bar Discussion....

Well anyways.... I was just thinking how everyone says ohhh you gotta get an obx strut bar .... or you gotta get aem and stuff..... anywho..... it's weird because I just got a strut bar the other day.... $30 shipped to me UPS....... and it's solid and sturdy.... also I found out its the same materials and quality as like all those other brand names.... so why do we buy brand names and stuff? Because it sounds cool to have like "AEM" and stuff? Well my philosophy is like this.... when you do a car... you do it for yourself mostly..... if your doing it to just pimp it out and show it off then thats stupid.... your the one spending the loot and your the one driving it..... do stuff to it that you like.... same goes for audio... i think ... if it sounds good and stuff then put it in.... screw brand names ..... strut bars can cost up to like 100+ for brand name ones.... it's the SAME EXACT THING AND DOES THE SAME EXACT STUFF...... anyways those are my thoughts..... let me know what yours are below... thanks

i think for some things you get what you pay for. but yeah mostly on many products you are paying for just brand name.

i bought me a $25 shipped Type-R strut bar. Well, at least that's what it says. I definitely felt the stiffness that was once not there before. So it was coo like that.

Ditto. BUT...though I haven't felt the difference...I think the Neuspeed bar (2 mounting points) "should" be better.

I got the Neuspeed because it is ONE piece, not 3 or more parts bolted together. The more connections you put on something, the more oppourtunity it has to become less ridgid (and less effective). As far as I know, the Neuspeed front strut bar is the only one that is a one piece design.

I didn't buy it because it's made by Neuspeed, I bought it because of the more robust design.

well let me ask you something, why do you think those big brands like DC/Neuspeed struts cost well over 100 and those cheap ones u can get for 15 bucks on ebay. now you must think the 15 bucks strut must be a hella good deal, but you are not looking at the big picture. reading those descriptions from ebay sellers aint getting you no where, why dont you ask all those pep with the cheap bars compare to the dc/neu ones. u do know when the strut snap, with that enormous amount of force it'll make a hole on ur hood too. its better for u to spend 100 on a dc/neu strut rather than spending more money on a new hood. and those dc/neu ones have warrenty, if they snap...heh means new hood/new strut for your car and watever that strut damaged...hell i'll go to honda and have them check everything and replace watever i can think of

Well there are pluses and minuses. I have a rear obx strut bar and it is frickin strong as anything. I have seen DC sports ones that seem so flimsy. I also have a neuspeed front strut bar. I got them both because they were used and that hardly any of the generic bars fit with a CAI. I think that they have both stiffened my chassis. I have seen some pretty flimsy ones that look like they will snap.

This topic so beat up. You're paying for research. You buy a $20 bar off ebay, there's no research put into it. They simple got a pipe and made it long enough to fit between the strut towers. When you buy Neuspeed braces they're reenforced in certain places where load is maxed out. Just look at the way the neuspeed bar is shaped.

One word. JDM! Mugen to be exact. I will either buy this, or I will make something like it.

The rear one doesn't work with our cars I don't think, but the front one should...

That one's technically for the RSX, but I've seen it on an RSX in person and it looks like it will fit perfectly on ours as well. I'm not 100% sure yet, but I'm like 80% sure that it will. Mugen doesn't offer a strut bar specifically for the 7th gen though...

2 things make me skeptical of it fitting :

A ) If it would universly fit between an RSX and a 7th generation civic I'm assuming they'd market it as both. Seperately, but still as both.

B ) I don't think our strut towers tilt in that direction. I think they tilt in the opposite. I'll take a closer look next time I pop my hood.

EDIT : Now that I take a closer look I think the white background is creating an optical illusion. So actually by eye it does look like it'll fit.

I think it'll fit. mugen doesn't market it as such because they dont want to class it with the civic...

same as comptech's rear sway bar for the RSX, it'll work on the civic too.. but they only market it as the civic si now.. not regular civics...

the price difference is the brand name, and the (maybe research), material, construction, and whatever else it takes for a brand name company to get a bar out... you woudln't believe how much it cost them to make. it seriously doesn't cost that much, but they jack up the price a lot because they can.

but yeah, design difference is usaully the big part... but sometimes those brand name ones are no different than ebayones.. no research, jsut slap on a bracket that fits and weld the bar.

*shrug*

I had a whole bunch of other pictures of this strut bar. On the car, off the car. Two engine bays side by side (Civic and RSX). I remember that I came to the conclusion that it would fit. I didn't see anything that was different betwean the two cars in the area of the strut bar that would cause it not to fit. I looked for that directory of pictures, but I couldn't find it. If you're really interested in this strut bar, then you can go to ClubRSX.com and check out their forums. They have a bunch more...
