Adventures with Expanding foam!
Ok so I did a lot of stuff today
I was able to install my second two Shivas, so now I have 4, and I got it all hook-uped. I only got to listen for a lil, but it sounded amazing (atleast the subs did). The spl was way more then I expected and it sounded nice. I also jacked up the gains on my tweets and woofers, I have them set seperatly so I need to reset them so that they sound better with my subs. The highs are kinda getting drowned out right now
Anyway, My ish was rattling like crazy!!!! My back dash was rattling like never before
So I got some more expanding foam for my car, and so I sprayed up where my rear fill used to be. I put some t-shirts on my subs to protect it from drips...but like an idiot, I stuck my head in the trunk to look up the holes, and i got some of it in my hair
I also have the stuff all on my hands because I didn't wear gloves! And the moral of the story is to wear gloves and watch your hair with expanding foam i should have learned my leason the last time when I sealed my trunck closed and the locking mechanism with foam. I should not be allowed to touch any moving mechanisms in my car
By the way, I think my biggest rattling problem is coming from my third brake light hitting the back window...and suggestions on how to stop this?
I put foam under it, but I don't want to put it on top because it would kinda look dumb...anywayzzzz

take your rear deck apart and stuff cloth or spray some of your foam back there, all on the frame, and put it back together.
It's a bitch stopping rattles on a car with a trunk. In my previous 00 celica and my current RSX-S the rattles are a bare minimum in which are easily stopped with weather stripping.

actually, its not the deck hitting the window, its the little flap inside the third brake light vibrating against the red lens, i have the oem spoiler and the origional 3rd brake light was disconnected, so all i did was stuff some paper towels between the flap and the bottom of it, uh, that was a little confusing, well, if you still have the oem 3rd brake light, take it out, turn on your system, stick your finger in the hole, and youll know what i mean, you can see it vibrating if you look closely, and with your finger you can make it stop, so just try putting something up in there, that vibration is totally gone now, but the others? uhh, yeah ok, sure
heh, you think expanding foam is bad, ive lived breathed slept in and eaten fiberglass resin expanding foam is sticky isnt it... never wulda guessed!
I carpeted my rear deck. matches my floor and kicks, and c pillars, everything, basically, makes the taillight look a ton sleeker, and i cant hear it when the rear deck hits teh window anymore. perfect.

the one i got is waterbased and you could remove it. it isnt easy but its not impossible either.
and arent dynamant and other sound deadeners very sticky anyways? same thing. and if you do a good job with the foam, you probably wont even be able to see it. i used white foam on my black car so you could kinda see it

yess, expanding foam can push out the rear 1/4 panel. it can also save yoru car in an accident becuase of it.
my buddy unloaded about a can and a half in each of his rear quarterpanels, and got hit by another car square into the panel, the car was going 30 miles per hour.
it looked like someone chipped a golfball into an otherwise stock car.
so foam has the power to make yrou car REDICULOUSLY strong and solid
