ATF in the Intake????
As I was leaving Kragen Auto Store (Spelling?) I heard this guys looking at the engine of an old Camaro (1970's) and one of guys tells the other that if he puts ATF in carbulator or spray it into the intake that it will clean out the engine from the inside. He said that he was going to get a lot of black smoke coming out of the tail pipe. I remmember hearing something like this when I was living in Mexico but I thought they didn't knew what they were talking about.
Is this true will a little ATF in the engine clean it out? and if so will it work on a fuel injection?

I've heard of this before, but using water is the more common method. Alot of old skewl mechanics use this trick to clean out the carbon build up inside the engine. The idea is that on a fully warmed up engine, you can pour small amounts(a few ounces at a time) of water down the carb while holding the idle high. This is suppose to 'steam clean' the internals some and remove carbon build up. I've seen guys do it before on small block chevys with TBI. You'll get alot of smoke coming out the pipe for sure. Some claim it works, others say it doesnt do much. I myself wouldnt try it on a newer car thats heavily computer/sensor controlled. Better to use some Techron FI cleaner instead and keep the engine oil clean and fresh.
They have TTHrottle Body cleaners where you just spary into the throlltle body...yea. black smoke will come outta the exhaust ...did it on my dad's car... it helped with the emissions...but you gotta do a bit of scrubing to get it clean...i used a toothbrush... in most cars the problem is in the diaphram if that's what's its called... where teh carbon builds up the most and it's kinda hard to celan without taking it off...also carbon builds up alot inside the throttle body's lil hols and pipes behind that throtttle door...
