RSX type S rear sway bar conversion for Civic EX from Honda Werx - questions from newbie

Ok,
someone please fill me in on what is included in this kit and whats involved. I understand my ex does allready have a sway bar, is this one a bigger diameter? Stock is 15mm, the type s is 19mm right? Does this put any more stress on my car? Do I need to make any other adjustments after I make the swap? How is it different, stiffer bushings? Do people really notice a difference? How hard is the install? I have access to a torque wrench, anything else I may need short of what's in ones standard tool box? I am new to suspension mods so please bare with me. Also, is there a front sway bar on the ex? I am not talking about the strut bar, but asking about a front sway bar? Do they make a rear strut bar as well, or is that the same thing as a rear sway bar???? Thanks for your patience with a newbie...

Correct. It's thicker.

None at all. Typically that's what the rear anti sway bar does. It allows more "stress" on a thicker bar so that the car will be more stable.

The bar is exactly the same design as the one Honda makes for the Civic/RSX. The bushings are different. Make sure you get the bushings - that's all you need for the bar. Don't bother getting the brackets.

This is one of the best modifications you can do for your car to increase handling and decrease body roll. It's easy and VERY cost effective.

An allen wrech set would help. You'll also need another wrench but I cannot remember which one. All the tools were listed in the review section here for a review on the product. Look for either the 19mm one of the 22mm one.

The EX does have a front anti sway bar that's pretty thick. From what I know, the 2k2 Civic EXs have the better ones. Changing the front won't make much of a difference compared to changing the rear.

You can get aftermarket strut bars. As far as I know, there are none made by Honda. Strut bar and anti sway bars are different. The anti sway bars will make a bigger difference in keeping the car stable... that's why they are called "anti sway".

No problem. I recommend the 22mm rear anti sway bar over the 19mm one that comes from the new JDM Honda Integra (RSX) Type R. But it's not cheap (it used to be fairly cost effective). An alternative would be Progress' 22mm one. The difference as far as I know is that the Honda one is 7lbs lighter. This is what I have on my car. You'll need a tie bar eventually. (Stay away from DC Sports.) Check it out my member's ride in my signature. Everyone's getting the 19mm one but think about it... why do you think RSX owners are ditching their stock 19mm ones? The majority of the members on this site would be provoked to get the 19mm one because it came of the Type S but there is much better.

Hey SoNiCcIvIc,
Thanks for the info.
I noticed from your pic of the underside of your car, is the upper part the rear anti sway bar and the lower shock looking thing the rear lower tie bar?

Indeed. It is the 22mm one. BTW, I found it for $83 at aj-racing.com. It's on backorder but this item is worth waiting for. I got mine from ClubRSX when the bar was first released and it was $145. Then the price went up to $175. I'm not sure where it's at now. I think it's either Tornactive or Honda-Werx that has it for $135 now.

The 19mm one can be found for as cheap as $50 (from what I've seen) to $80. Easy to find because RSX owners (both coupe and Type S owners which have the same sized 19mm bar) are ditching it either for the 22mm one or an even thicker one (27mm).

from what i've heard... you don't need new bushing for the 19mm sway bar...

Well you heard wrong, just bcause you read it on the internet its not always true... Anyways do the math.. bigger bar=bigger bushings.. .the stock bar is like a pencil, so if you get a bigger bar, how is that gunna fit into some small bushings? Get the bushings, they're cheap and necessary for the proper usage of the anti-sway bar. Plus get urethane bushings and the stock ones are rubber.
