My friend has a VTine-1 and I borrow it from time to time. It's saved both of us a number of times. Also, retail is only $400 not $500...and I'm sure you can get it for like $300 or less on eBay.

Also there are other good radar detectors like the Bel 980 and Passport 8500. Check the Car & Driver reviews and also check out this site:

I have the Bel 980 and my bud has one.

The valentine is a better one but I didn't want to pay more $$ for it since the Bel 980 is right up there with it. Plus the Valentine one is big.

I have the V1 and I love it, It has saved me uncountable times. The directional arrows and the counter is awesome. Although I think its extremly too sensitive on X band even in advanced logic mode but Florida cops only use K,KA and laser. I bought my directly from Valentine one, only because they will only upgrade for future bands for the original owner. As far as size if you buy the new version 1.8 its 30% smaller than the older ones, its also smaller and weighs less than the passport 8500. Lots of money to fork out but at least it will pay for itself in the long run.

simple as this PASSPORT 8500, it totally kicks butt, puts the valentine one to shame, I've had both and sold the V1 on ebay after trying out the passport, $125.00 cheaper too!

V1 all the way. My feelings on this is I might as well spend a little more now to get some extra features (ie the arrows which does help alot) rather than spend less now and pay for it later. Its saved me at least 5 times now. Has even saved me from instant on once.
