who wants carbon fiber.
Ok, i want to keep this small scale, but i have finally started Carbon Dreams, my composite shop. I dont have time for a full production run of civic parts right now with school and all, but im makeing parts for my car, and i was wondering if others would be interested in them as well.
Currently I have made the part that fits on your trunk houseinng your licence plate lights and it looks awsome. Next i will be makeing a gas door out of cf. I have made them b4 and they come out pretty sweet. Im also probally going to make a front grill replacement for our car if anyone has intrest. i will have pictures up soon if all goes well. so let me know if this is something people would like to see.
The pricenig would be resonable, more than reasonable in fact, and i wouldnt sell anyone a shady product.
cheers,

I'd like to see the grill replacement.
As for the liscense plate lights, can you even see it? If so, I'd like to get a shot of that as well...
Dover huh, I was just up there last night at Tri-Star gymnastics... My girl's lil sister had a meet there.

I would be very interested in the hood trim in CF. You know, that part that goes above the front grille. The part on the hood. I think you could sell about 15 of those a month on this site easily.

ok, well i just got back from the shop...im still peeling resin from my fingertips. well so far so good on the rear licance plate light cover. the mold is in great shape. the vacume machine however isnt pulling as hard as i would have liked. I think i have a rip somewhere in the bag. so we will find out tomorrow when i get back from the shop if it pulled correctly. as far as the replacement for the front hood, thats definitly going to happen. in fact, I think im about to go out to my car and pull it off right now

ok, so slightly bad news, more of an anoyance. the vacume bag just isnt pulling that well, so i have to make a few more prototypes before i have a sellable product for you all. the GOOD news though is that I am makeing the the mold for the front trim piece as we speak. i had to head to one one of my grad classes at five before it could fully cure, so i dont know exactally how it came out, but i when i had left it have moved passed the thixothropic stage, so it should come out good. the front piece is a much more simple shape so i shouldnt have the pulling issues i encountered perviously. i'll keep you updated.

How the heck are you making these things anyway? Do you have a mould and some sort of vaccum? Then you use woven carbon sheets and fiberglass resin to fill the mould? I'm just interested...

essentially carbon fibering is similer to fiberglass, but much much harder to work with...the vacume bag is a way to put pressure on the piece so it forms the shape of the mold. as far as the pictures go, i need someone to host them, grey maybe? once my websight is up, then it shouldnt be a problem! soon my friends, we will have a sellable product...within a week im hopeing

hey, thanks for the imput...the first piece im going to offer is the front hood trim. Ive just finished the rear trunk trim for my car tonight. should have pics tomorrow. Im not goting to make a full production if this piece yet, but i would be willing to overlay existing trunk pieces if there is an intrest. the hood piece should be done by the end of next week (its exam crunch time at school, so im really busy and im not going to sell anything that is made half-a$$ed.) door sills should be coming soon tho!!

Sounds good. You know how the front trim piece has little notches for the special screws to go into... Does your mould take those into account? I'm just wondering if it will attach as easily as the stock trim piece.

im able to be flexable in the priceing, but the trunk trim is 80 for an overlay and you need to send me your stock trim piece (same deal for the front) , and it is 135 for the total replacement.
oh, and sorry about the hazyness of the part (and my car) my car in encusted with road salt from a trip up to maine last week. i tried to wipe it off for the picture, but you can see what good that did:rolleyes

i have/been working on those for the past 2 weeks. i still cant get a perfict mold for the front piece (the angle is so acute) so im not going to make a replacement until i get it down perfictly. I can still do overlays of it though, but its going to take a little while longer to get that part finished as a total replacement.
