Ok to run steel wheels without hub caps?

Is it ok to run steel wheels without hub caps for winter? I see many cars doing so, but the reason I ask is that I notice that the axle is visible in the centre of the wheel. Will this be prone to rust?

why are you worried abotu having your hub covers on during the winter? They wont get damaged any more then they would from regular use any other time of the year.... But yes you can use your steelies without covers. Quite a few guys have dont it with our cars right now (most waiting for new or in between alloys....)

Sure no problem. You can even spray paint the center hub if you are worried about rust. No harm can be done

The steelies rule...I put mine on for winter, saving the good rims from all the road salt!

For Winter purposes or for the looks? Before I got my rims and after I got my drop, I just left the hubcaps off. Black donuts on black car looks pretty cool... to Donuts!!

well, the hubcaps dont really seal the axle from the elements, so if you think about it its no big deal, now if the hubcaps had a rubber seal on the backside so it would seal against the steel wheel, maybe then it'd be a different story.
